Squealing Brakes
Squealing Brakes
Hello everyone - I have a 2011 GT3RS with 1900 miles with the original factory brakes and pads. I am getting a lot of squealing when I apply the breaks gently as when coming to a stop at a light. I know the previous owner took it to the track once, so I thought perhaps it could be glazed. However when I looked at the pad I really didn't see much. I know from tracking my Turbo that a good hard brake would get rid of the glaze and then the squealing. For some reason its not working on the RS so I'm wondering if could be something else???? Thanks in advance.

Take it up to 120 MPH and hit the brakes as hard as you can, do this twice! It works everytime. Oh, and don't drive it in the city, that's bad for your car!!
Agree, so shall we say its common then, rather than normal, although from talking with many Porsche owners, I do believe it is "normal" to all Porsche metallic factory brakes......
and I believe the 120 MPH hard stop comments x 2 was TIC (tongue in cheek) ROFL....

Squeaky and dusty are two common complaints in brakes. Is it normal? (assuming we are talking on street driving)
It's absolutely not, but if they can't not fix the problem they will say "It's normal".
High speed hard stopping will only work for a while, it usually will come back.

part of the ownership experience.... just wait till you start hearing all the other noises!
bedding in the brakes certainly helps, but after every power wash of the rotors needs doing again.
here is a thread that I was assisted with on bedding in new pads and rotors:

Question to everyone - As far as bedding the brakes, is that only for new brake pads and/or rotors. My car has 2000 miles I bought it pre-owned with 1400 miles and they were squealing from the stat. Could I still bed in the brakes now? Also I heard taking 80 grade sand paper on the pads to remove any possible glaze? Thank you for your suggestion.
Totally noraml for brakes like this. All you need to do are some high speed threshold brake events...about 3-5 of them and the squeal will go away. The squeall happens when they are used lightly and the glaze up some....you need to bed them in better.
