excellence 2rs vs 3rs
excellence 2rs vs 3rs
Good cover story but about what you would expect. 2 has thrill ride power but doesnt sound good and isnt as precise. 3 sounds great is better value. They liked 3 better because they like n/a vs turbo.
I watched a 2rs drive the f1 ring last month with a 3rs close behind. I would spend the extra $100k on the 3 just to get the sound. Turbo sounded like a vacuum cleaner

Both excellent cars. The good news is you can spend $100K less to get the 3 instead of 2.
there has to be a way to improve the turbo soundtrack. wastegate hiss and pop should be an addition to the engine/exhaust note and make it sound even more exotic. someone needs to make a gt2rs mod that will make it sound like a $300k sports car should! porsche is too worried about german sound regulations to do it.

there is no comparison...the 2RS is the king of all 911s .... the 3RS is a track car which is something you can drive on the street but also falls short of a full on cup car which it tries to be but is not on the track.
The 2RS is an exclusive, turbo charged (I love boost!!!) beast that incorporates the best of the GT3RS and turbo models into one car...it's the ultimate 911 to date (I don't know if it has PASM and PSM like the 7 GT2 does...hope it does not)
I would opt for a cup car instead of a 3RS if I were simply to use it for the track, if I wanted both a street and track car I'd go standard GT3 and save a few bucks and add a few things here and there a la carte...

Funny you say that, because the original 911 sound of the late '60s sounded like a vacuum cleaner. That is the true flat6 sound.
but there are turbo cars that dont sound like a vacuum, and porsche or the aftermarket needs to get these cars sounding better. (btw, im trading in my gt3 for a gtr so do as i say not as i do!)
the accompanying excellence article by j van overbeek at laguna seca basically says the 3 is a better car simply due to the better noise. i think ferrari makes their $ on sound even more than on style, performance, etc

Yes, but those are not Porsche flat6s... I still prefer the original Porsche sound to the me-too, 'look! here I am' blaring sound.
Re Ferrari and their blaring sound... nah, I buy cars for performance and prefer them stealthily quiet.

I don't think you can beat the uninhibited sound of a normally aspirated high-performance engine. The turbines just interfere with the exhaust sound too much, but that is the price paid for the efficient power increase.
