Car looks great! How is the front wheel fit on the turbo? I thought the RS had front fender flares and wider offset front wheels, but they seem to work. The only reason I ask is because I want to put the same wheels on my GTS but was worried that the front wheels would stick out too much.

I'm planning on having it lowered in the near future.

Personally, I'm not a fan of this converion but if you're gonna do it this is the way to go!! The car looks amazing!

Thanks. Front wheels fit no problem. I had the conversion done at My local Porsche dealership and they never even commented that the wheels my be too wide. They do stick out a little, but only by about a quarter of an inch. You can't notice unless you stand at the front of the car and look right down at them with the steering dead centre. I have the standard tyres for the turbo on the wheels also (235s), not the wider RS fitment (245s)

Nice result, would not do it on a gt3 rs, I read someone did the opposite on a 997 rs mkII, from center to 5.
Any idea for or against this besides aesthetics, they center lock really looks nice

There are a dozen of 997.2 GT3 owners who have gone from center lock to 5 lug. There have been failures where the wheel came loss on the track due to the center lock design. Supposedly Porsche fixed it by redesigning the center lock (There was a recall for 2010 GT3s). Overall having the 5 lug over the center lock design, makes changing wheels much easier and less things can go wrong.

I converted my 997.2 GT3 to 5 lug.

I fell in love with the wheels from the GT2RS. I tried to find a copy that used the five lug but I couldn't find one after months of searching. As far as I know one doesn't exist. And the more I looked at those wheels the more I wanted them. And then I read you could have this conversion. I researched it for months, and I know all about the issues that people have had, and the people who have converted their wheels back to five lug.

I did it purely to have those wheels, so it was just for looks. I have no desire nor need to change the wheel as I don't use the car in the winter. I do not track my car ever, so I didn't feel it was a problem for me as the affected cars have only been the ones that are used on track.

I know I'll get some abuse form people saying it was a bad idea but there have only been a handful of incidents with damage to cars from loose wheels and they have all been GT3RS cars on the track. And with the new equipment on the car and the bolts tightened to the proper torque and with proper maintenance, I should have no issues in the future. I also had an official Porsche dealership carry out the work so they can't say it was an improper job should any issues occur.

You think there would be any issues/rubbing if you ran the gt2rs tires? I've been looking for some new CL wheels and the majority are from gt2rs so just wanted to confirm they would bolt on with the wider tires.

I don't see how they would, the GT2rs has the same body shell as the Turbo. with the only difference being wheel arch extensions, which are fitted to the original wing/fender without any cutting happening.

I've never seen someone want center locks over 5 lugs. We are all trying to go the other way and take off the horrible center locks and put 5 lugs on.

Well as I've mentioned previously, I have no interest in tracking my car, and it seems the people who want to remove the centrelocks do so because they track theirs. I think it's disingenuous to say everyone wants to remove them. I'm aware of said issues, but as my car is not tracked and the only cars affected have been used substantially on tracks I'm not worried.

Just wanted to update this thread as I've just had my car lowered to complete the look at least as far as the wheels go. It is my intention to do a full GT2RS replica over the next year or two. It is a massive undertaking as everything is so expensive, but it's turning out to be a very rewarding experience. I'm also writing about my adventures in the Porsche Club Great Britain club magazine (the official Porsche club in the UK).

Anyway, I used the TechArt Lowering kit which consists of four springs only (no shocks) and they work with your original PASM dampers. The ride after the fitting is slightly more firm but not too much that the car has become uncomfortable. However it now handles much better in the corners and reminds me a little of the Carrera GT I drive on occasion.

The car sits approximately 15mm lower than stock. The kit says it will lower your car 20mm (0.7 inch) but if you have PASM fitted then it will be 15mm.

You definitely cannot argue with the finished look. That looks terrific!
