996 gt2 to gt3 wheel question?

Have a friend that has a set of 19' hre 540r wheels that came off his 2004 gt2, no offset stamped on the back of any of these wheels. Will they fit on my 2004 gt3 and accept a 315 rear tire, this topic is usually beaten to death but cant find a definitive answer or info. The fronts have a 235 and rear has a 315 pilot sport.

Unfortunately its hard to say without the offsets. Because it came off a wide body chassis car I'm going to say it most likely will not fit.

ok im confused now......there are porsche tuners showing 19" wheels for 996 gt3 with the same offsets that the widebody cars have and other vendors showing that the stock oem gt3 996 wheels will not fit 996 narrow body cars....but i thought they would...then people .saying that the 996 gt3 car is on a c4 chassis.....which is widebody right?

Wheel Enhancement shows the stock oem wheels on a 996 gt3 as being a widebody fitment and narrow body fitment.....very confusing...may just test fit them and see what happens

Chassis: The GT3 chassis is the Carrera4, Carrera4S, Turbo, GT2 chassis (stiffer). The Carrera chassis is unique to the Carrera (Coupe and Convertible), the front chassis is shared with the Boxster.
Just pulled this off another board.......I thought the gt3 was wider so why are the offsets different

btw....996 GT3's don't like 19" wheels very much so expect some handling issues...all Porsche factory wheels I have seen have the rim width and offset stamped on the outside of the wheel near the valve stem...your factory GT3 fronts will say 8.5 and 40 with the rear 11 and 63...if you are determined and can't find the offset on the wheel then you had better learn how to measure it...see the following chart...this should be done without a tire mounted but can still be done with a tire in place if necessary....place the wheel on a flat surface with the outside down....place a flat piece of metal or wood from rim edge to rim edge if there is a tire mounted or just across the rim if no tire...then drop a measure down to the mounting flange (the part of the wheel that fits against the rotor hat) and take that measurement...lets say it's 7.75 inches or 198.85mm...suppose you have an 11 inch wheel (total width)...half of that is 5.5 inches or 139.70mm...the offset is positive and is 2.25 inches or 57.15mm...here is a chart to help you visualize except the chart shows negative offset whereas your GT2 wheel will have positive offset (mounting flange is closer to the outboard flange than the inboard flange).......hope this helps

Thanks Chuck, I know what offsets my gt3 wheels are. The hre wheels didnt have offsets on them and they are not in my posession...all I know is they came off a 04 GT2. Hoping somebody out there could give some insight....then was confused on the chassis being narrow or widebody? etc...

I'm sorry I didn't know 996 3 chassis were WB. I made the assumption because the 997's aren't WB. You should give HRE a call, and see if they can use your buddies name to bring up the order details.

996 GT3 is NARROW body. GT2 wheels will stick out too far. The "widebody" GT3 wheels you saw may have been replicas made in different offsets
