Smile Shake down of Cup and mikymu at Thunderhill

I finally got to a point with my Cup car where I can say I am comfortable with none ABS brakes and the lovely sequential (still need ear plugs for the jet turbine cabin noise). Did another event at Thunderhill this past Friday with the usual show of GT3 force from the Bay Area for moral support

Tried out air jack for the first time ... man! they are noisy but way cool! Like what Patrick said "it sounded like a transformer!" lol.

Here are some pictures and video from the track. Keep in mind ... I am still learning how to drive the damn Cup car

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYWyoFRCb7g

Tried out air jack for the first time at home ... and could not figure out how to lower it lol

Make checking tires and changing wheels a breeze

GT3 gang

Even Edwin brought his spanking new 2011 GT3 RS for a 7.2RS/Cup stare down ... who is going to draw first?

Great video, I was cracking up at you yanking on the shift lever. I think we've all yanked on some part of the car in frustration at some point.

Those cup brakes are finicky though huh? Was is trail braking that caused the spins?

Thanks for posting! Your first spin I was feeling for you. Try crashing a 4 four stroke dirt bike in the middle of the woops, base of a big jump (landing side), or a blind spot in the middle of corner...then try and find neutral and kick the dam thing over before getting hit or landed on! STRESS!!!!! Least you got it started on your own...???

Yeah, I thought I was going to yank the shifter off. These brakes work great but I am not use to it. Usually I just stand on the brakes in my RS and that's a no, no for Cup. Both times spin because I stand on brakes out of excitement

Bosch ABS can be had for $10K but once you get a hang of none ABS brakes it's a breeze. Just get ready to flat spot 4 sets of tires first

Yeah, finally got the car going on it's own. For a moment I thought it needs a tow for sure lol

Would you recommend trying no ABS in our street cars? After my ABS failure at 150 mph, I'm really considering it.

I know the 996 Cups had ABS, but when (what year) did they (if they ever did?) introduce ABS to the 997 Cups? I have heard of folks retrofitting ABS to their 997 Cups but it apparently is quite the process and expensive.

Not a good idea to go w/o ABS for street GT3. ABS is a great addition as far as safety goes

All 997 Cup are without ABS. Only 996 Cup has ABS and they work pretty well too.

Looking good! If you're not spinning... you're not pushing yourself. It's okay. That's part of the learning curve... most never even have the gonads to go beyond what they are comfortable. Just be sure to push it in areas without walls haha. Thanks for sharing.
