991 GT3 gets no PDK
991 GT3 gets no PDK
Someone just posted an interview with the Porsche CEO on another forum.
I wonder what you GT guys think about the decision, that the next GT3 will get no PDK, not even as an option.
Here is a Poll for those interested:

I think a 991 GT3 without a manual would be a disgrace, but i also think that Porsche should offer PDK as an option.
(as it is the fastest combination round a track)
here is the interview:

"....as long as the customer asks for it, says Muller, Porsche will build a stick-shift 911. The next GT3, he says, will not have a PDK transmission."

Same comment as a couple of other threads: I still prefer a stick, but surprised it's not planned as an option.
First of all, the 7spd is based off of the same tranny as the PDK, so weight difference will be minimal. Secondly, the supposed 991 GT3 will have a power plant based off of the same DFI-derived engine (no more Metzger), so there shouldn't be compatibility issues. Third of all, the PDK can handle 530+hp from the 997.2 TTS...so power won't be an issue. Lastly, the PDK will make a GT3 FASTER around a track...
And after all is said and done, isn't that what a GT3 is ultimately all about? NA power that is quick around a track?

The GT3 isn't all about track times. Yeah it has to be fast, but i think its about the pure driving experience. Feeling connected with the car. Well that is just my opinion, but i don't mind having pdk as an option.

+1, maybe they don`t sell enough GT3s to offer 2 sorts of transmissions?
(but on the other hand they would sell a lot more with PDK as an option.)
Or maybe they are worried about the PDK under hardcore conditions?

But I had not yet considered this as a reason.
But yeah, if Porsche is trying to build the ultimate in track performance, why not offer the best for ultimate track performance?
as well (for those who don`t need the 2 additional seats.)
a light weight GT3 with 450HP and PDK would be pretty close to a Turbo in a straight line but with superior dynamics.
i don`t think Porsche is interested that too many customers are going the stripped out/hardcore GT way, cause they are earning more money with the 911s that are overloaded with options such as ventilated seats, sunroofs etc.
If this is true and I really hope it is, thank you Porsche for staying true to the GT3 brand. (something that has steadily diminished over the past several years overall) Want PDK? get another model
I replied on the poll section .. here is a copy and paste of it.
My vote would be to build the best Gt3 and if it happens to be a manual then it's the right gearbox. On the other hand if the PDK was the better choice and it simply is not being offered then that raises other questions . Is it because it might overheat on the track ? is it too hard to warranty? Simply saying it's not an option at all is not enough informatkion .
So my vote is --I don't know .
