2005 GT2 compared to GT3
Does anyone have a link to the differences between the GT2 & GT3 for the 2005 MY?
This is another attempt for me to understand the value of the GT2 as well as potential problems that face a GT2 owner with 27,000 miles on the OD.
All replies greatly appreciated

GT2 turbocharged
GT3 Normally Aspirated (higher red-line)
GT2 heavier but more horsepower
either car will hurt you if you don't know what you are doing but the GT2 has slightly more potential (has been referred to as the "widow maker")
there weren't many 2005 MY of either car as I believe they stopped production in late 2004...I have one of the few 2005 MY GT3's and one of the last ones made but it was a November 2004 build

Any further comments on maintenance of a turbocharged car with 27,000 miles. P
neither car has the nannie systems that came on the 997's so it is easier to get in trouble...both drivetrain platforms should be pretty reliable as both motors have been proven in competition (I might give a nod to the GT3 NA motor but I'm also prejudiced)...the GT2 motor has the potential to be modded to much higher hp whereas the GT3 motor does not so if you into modding your cars that might be a consideration...neither car should be considered for a daily driver unless you are totally crazy like me and couldn't care less about the bumps and rattles
I have to say that a guy in my run group at my September DE had a 996 GT2 and he was off the track twice. The second time, he did not come back. I think he had some damage from the second trip to the grass and dirt.
Thanks so much.
Can either of you guess a rough value for the 2005 GT2 with 27,500 miles.
Looks and smells good but, it does give a rough. tough ride.
AND ... I've not been on track with it. (grin)
I don't want you to get a totally wrong impression about the GT2...they are manageable but probably not for the inexperienced driver....you can't just mash the throttle in a corner (in fact you can't do this with a GT3 either)...you have to learn to feed the throttle in as you unwind the wheel on corner exit...this is an acquired skill and is easier to do in the GT3 as there is no turbo lag or sudden boost to deal with...the GT2 is rear drive only not four wheel drive as in a twin turbo so one must pay close attention to rear tire wear since you want as much traction back there as you can get...the rush you will get from accerlation in a GT2 compares favorably with the rush you will get from a normally aspirated climb to 8200 rpm in the GT3...if you want ***** out straight line speed go with the GT2...if you want a car you can drive to the track, beat the hell out of it on track all day and then drive it home..go with the GT3

Lot's to think on.
Still trying to figure out the correct value.
Great advice here... Chuck nailed it.... If you are new to track driving the gt3 may be the better choice... Two very different animals, choose carefully... The widow maker can bite... But the gt3 is not docile by any means
In 2010, Excellence Magazine lists that the 2005 GT2 sold between $81,800 to $109,600

GT2 is more "dangerous" to inexperienced drivers through because there is no traction control with a good amount of power (even stock). With more power, it is more dangerous. The GT3 is more managable since the power is linear. Both are fantastic cars so can't go wrong either way. Getting to know the GT2 & setting it up for your particular driving style is important. You want the shoe to fit.

Kevin, thank you for the useful input.
Sounds like a newer GT3 is for me then as opposed to the 2005 Gt2.
Thanks all for your congruent input. GT2 does sound like the widower!

Ummmmmm... If you are planning on tracking the car and this will be your starter car, I'd suggest a regular 911 and neither a GT2 nor GT3.. Mind you, I absolutely LOVE my 996/GT3. But I don't think its a good "first track" car.
^^^ well said, for a first car be it "spirited street" or track the GT2 should be out of the question for the most part...it's not the easiest car to drive and it's violent in it's nature...the GT3 is just as raw but not with the lethal speed and power so it's more tame BUT don't mistake that for complacency as the GT3 requires focus and skill to drive properly as well, neither car is known for it's compliance and comfort ora road manners, and are very basic and made for performance condtions.
