Sport Button

When the "sport" button is engaged on my 997.1 GT3RS, is there any added wear going on due to cam lift (Vario-cam) being higher than normal (off sport button position)? Is it best to keep it disengaged when freeway droning? Is gas mileage negatively affected? Thanks in advance.

I believe it just opens a flap inside the exhaust so no effect whatsoever on engine.

Different s/w mapping. Doesn't offer much on an NA motor. Neither does the sport chrono wart on the dash = expensive timer.

I heard it adds 15 hp to the midrange. If that is the case, more than just the flapper is opening I would think. D-ubercars, I hate to sound ignorant, but what is s/w mapping? Thanks again.

Check the owners manual, but I think all it does is sharpen the throttle response, open the exhaust valve, and increase the threshold for PSM intervention. No extra power.

Does the software remapping then instruct the Vario-cam to remain on the "high-lift mode" longer, and at a wider range of rpms, thereby increasing wear-and-tear on the valvetrain? My concern is miles of droning along the freeway needlessly increasing wear, as well as burning more fuel (increased fuel injector duration?). If it is merely a change in timing vs lift, or in ignition timing (as long as this doesn't result in higher combustion chamber temps), then maybe it is no big deal. Thanks for the patience on this issue.

If you had the Sharkwerks exhaust you would WANT to engage the Sport button EVERY time.

Mr.B, I do indeed have the Sharkwerks rear exhaust bypass installed, but I was asking regarding the mechanics of what is going on with relation to the cam lift and/or timing, etc. Thanks for the reply though.
