I am not saying that is what happened, just that these can be some possible scenarios. Another thing could have been that they just ordered a crank and did not use the modified bearings.
typically its from not getting tolerances right at the bearing surfaces. Can you verify with Brian that the crank is similar to a porsche crank and oils from the ends to the middle? Do you mind if I call Brian to discuss?

thanks

He will get all the clearances of the bearings set up with each kit. The bearings will be modified first then clearances.
He did say that each bearing gets its oil individually from the 2 main crank bearings; something along those lines We were talking for a while so I lost some of the info in there somewhere, lol, but he assured me the oiling is taken care of with the grooved, modified bearings.
You can go ahead and give him a call if you like. He is pretty busy but you can try to get through to him. I usually can get through to him easier so if you have any specific questions you can ask me and I can relay it to him to speed up the process.

I talked with Brian again today. He said Jamie left him a message but he has been very busy to get back to him. Fridays are always crazy; not that they are not very busy any other given day.
He mentioned there were some oil pressure issues in a couple of builds but this was caused by misassembly ; the people that built the motors did not get the bearing grooves right. Since then this has been addressed with the new and improved bearings now they supply with each kit. The modified bearings come with grooves and the oiling holes enlarged.
He did mention that these billet cranks are better than the factory cranks; they have better oiling! He has been doing these motors for over 12 years. They have so much experience when it comes to boxer engines. They have their own 4 cylinder boxer motor that makes over 900 horses with forced induction. As most of you know they offer the best rods around, even available in titanium.

Talked to Brian, feel much better about the issues I heard about and his solutions. His suggestion on size for us NA guys is 82mm stroke and the 103 bore with the "drop in" liners. This gets you a 4098cc engine and money left to do the headwork to make big power and sustained high RPM's...

Alan, any feedback from your headwork friend for valves, springs, retainers Etc?

Drop in liners are very convenient.

I called Richard yesterday but he was out. Was supposed to call him again today but I forgot; busy with work. I will try him again Monday. He might have already gotten the pricing. So I hope anyways
I have been told the bigger valves alone make a big difference.

What are the options or plans with regards to DME tuning to account for the capacity increase?

couple companies can do the tune pretty conveniently. Softronic has an OBDII connector and has done lots of conversions. My business partners in the UK, Evolve Tuning, can do it as well, but we're mainly BMW guys. We can develop a tune for the GT3's as I have one and can spend the time on the dyno tweaking it, but realistically it's typically better to go with a company with experience in the marquee you're running...

I'm sure there are lots of opinions in tuners and I'd personally like to hear all of them...

Reality is we're likely still in the realm of the adjustments in the factory, but we're pushing it, those of us going from 3.6 to 4.2 is ~17% That much increase in displacement will likely run a bit lean WOT without some modifications. That and I don't plan to stop with just displacement increase, bigger valves, a bit higher lift and duration cams and we'll definitely need a tune. I don't think the NA guys will need new injectors, but will have to see what the current IDC is for the stock pieces...

Pretty sure the likes of Softronic and others will be able to build a custom tune to suit whatever set up each of us go with

So far Davo67, Jamie_GT3, and ur20v said they are in. Right? I also had an inquiry from Greece about a Turbo motor but he has not gotten back to me yet. He mentioned I could ship it to Greece or Florida; I prefer Florida which makes things easier and lowers the risk of anything going wrong. That is 3 GT3s and 1 Turbo for me with a possibility of another turbo build.

Are any of you guys a member on Rennlist where you can also post on there to see if we can get a few more people on board? I signed up on there a little while ago but can not post yet. It would be great if one of you starts a post on there to see what kind of interest we can get from that forum.

I am waiting on the Cylinder head info. I just called a few minutes ago to remind him but he was on another call so I had to leave a message.

I posted the numbers for the drop in 103 bore on there as well. Drop in sleeves seem to be a great idea; a little less displacement but takes a lot of time and cost out of the equation.
