I have highly intermittent coolant leak after hard driving stints. It only leaks when the engine cools down and drops about 3 tablespoons per incident. The leak seems to drop out between engine and trans and favors left side. I had coolant expansion tank cap leak and figured that was the cause of the small puddle. After repair of the coolant cap, the coolant leak is still present though. I'm about to pass the 50K mile mark for reference.

Is this the issue that the NTSB is addressing? Has anyone had their local dealer look for the issue or report to you that your vehicle is affected?

Thanks for the info OP.

The NHTSA is looking into all issues regarding the coolant system, but specifically, the coolant pipes in GT1 based engines that have been epoxied to hold the connecting pipes. I'd still report the leak.

Thanks bbywu.

Any luck with your dealer anyone? I have a TSB recall for a EGT sensor per Roger Jobs Porsche that I want to take the TT in for. I'll see if they (dealership) points out the leak. It is very apparent there is a leak and it often has the sweet coolant smell when running. Crusty white dried coolant on engine and underbody too.

Thanks for the quick reply...

It looks like Porsche has till July 11 of 2013 to submit a reply as to the action they plan on taking. Is this also correct?

My thoughts are that "if" there's any remote possibility of a coolant fitting failure, I would report it. Please ...thanks

You fixed one weak link - the coolant cap. Did you check the expansion tank for cracks/leaks - it also is a weak link. Both of these fixes are easier and less expensive than pinning/welding the coolant fittings.

I filed with nhtsa for welding of my coolant fittings plus sharkwerks fittings(2) for my 07 gt3 with 13k miles. Got email from wash dc nhtsa investigator asking if my actions were due to a failure or preventative. I called him in dc rather than email back and told him it was preventative due to the epoxy used. Better safe than sorry. We talked a few min and then he thanked me. Just a FYI.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I had the failure in July 2011. I've submitted the form.

Just called to file. Very nice lady and takes around 10 min. Have your VIN available along with ODO reading.

Had a coolant hose up in front by the right radiator, 2007 GT3 24,000 miles. Happened during normal driving.

Just received a follow-up call from a different agent. This agent from NHTSA was very interested in the symptoms of the coolant leak as well. He was also very polite and spent a good 30 min discussing my vehicle. Very impressed with a government agency for the first time in some time.

I also had someone call me very quickly after submitted the form. Very polite and easy to talk to. I am also amazed at how well the interaction went with a government entity! Don't know if anything will come of this though.

It was taken in to Porsche and the expansion tank was ruled out as a cause for the leak.
