997.2 GT3 must have options
997.2 GT3 must have options
Been looking at these more and more and was wondering more for future resale what are the must haves on this car? Dynamic mounts, PCCB, front lift, etc.? I am pretty flexible but given the lofty prices, I'd like to protect the downside a bit by having the right options. This would be a fun car for weekends and some track time, nothing hardcore. Thanks for any input from those that have been around this market longer.

The only must-have option is the lift (followed by dynamic engine mounts and sport chrono IMO). Buckets are also high on many enthusiasts' lists. As for other options, I would recommend doing some searches. Between Rennlist and 6speed, there must be over 100 threads that discuss the pros and cons of PCCBs, for example. Some love them, some don't care for them. They are far from a must-have, though, so I'm not sure they would even be otherwise mentioned in this thread.

First of all, get a an inspection done by a third party that knows these cars before buying anything. Must haves for me when I bought one were heated seats and that's about it. I ended up with a car that was optioned to the gills with full leather, deviated stitching, Nav, power seats, PCCB, etc...I really liked the PCCB's but if I tracked a lot I would not want them. For the street they were really nice because they don't have brake dust and I am lazy when it comes to cleaning wheels. Beyond that, I don't think you really need them. My C4S had steel and it was great (just messy). I really miss my GT3
Good luck with the search. That's half the fun.

I would argue the only real must have option in these cars is sport buckets. Resale on most GT3's boils down three things: miles, ownership history, condition. Even back when I bought mine, the delta between a fully loaded high option car and a stripper was about $3-5K.
As far as many of the "must have" options, here's my thoughts:
1. Dynamic Engine Mounts: have tracked both extensively which is really the only place most would ever notice them. Not a huge difference. I would challenge anyone to show concrete evidence that they reduce lap times for your average driver too. They can be retrofitted on most cars but at around 2500, you're better off just going with WEVO or other semi-solid mounts.
2. PCCB: if you track, the only reason to get PCCB's is to throw away money. At approx $4K a corner to replace (vs. $500 for iron), they just don't make sense. If you are a pure street driver, they could be desirable but remember, the next owner will likely track and have to replace them as most of these cars see track.
3. Lift: This was my one "had to have" option when I was shopping. Started reading Rennlist and discovered an inordinate amount of failures of the lift system. It adds weight and complexity to the car. If you're worried about scraping, the piece that makes contact with the ground is a user replaceable $200 piece of plastic. Consider it a wear item and you've just saved yourself the trouble.
My car has very few options: Sport Chrono (useless), Nav (really like to explore), red belts (nice touch), heated seats (replaced with buckets - best of both worlds), Sound Package Plus (slight upgrade from crap stereo). That's pretty much it. The car is fantastic with 0 options. I'd care more about finding a solid example with a clean history vs. one with any options.
Best of luck.

Every person is different. For me Sport Buckets were the only option I wanted, and Sport Chrono was the only option I didn't want. I found exactly what I was looking for along with leather, deviated stitching, and carbon fiber.
My car also has the dynamic engine mounts. I can't say that I feel them work. I'm sure they stiffen in the twisties. And I like that I don't have the added vibration from solid mounts the rest of the time I drive the car. I have Wevos in my 993 and the NVH is noticeable.
