Question carrera to GT3 upgrade, need advice.

hello everyone im new to this forum and im excited to post my first thread. so here goes lol.

i have a few questions so ill try to make it as simple as i can.

i bought a 2001 996 carrera about a year ago as a project car. it is the first porsche i own and my first full project car. i bought it at an auction clean title but the car was striped almost to having nothing on the outside and was missing the engine and transmission. my plan for the car was to slowly buy parts for it to upgrade it into a GT3. so far what ive been able to buy are the bumpers and the wing along with the rims and upgraded breaking kit that the GT3 996 uses and i also switched out the suspension. the main thing i want to ask is this, does anyone know what engine and transmission i need to buy in order to keep it up with GT3 specks. because from what ive read online the GT3 has a 3.6 engine but im not sure if it uses the same 3.6 engine as normal 996 models. and if does not use the same 3.6 i want to know if the GT3 engine would even fit a normal 996 coupe.

thanks for the help in advance guys!

Not sure about fitting.
Gt3 use Mezger engine except 2015 uses modified 9A1 engine
Imo get a gt3 996 for 55-65k
Cheaper in long run.

For the deal I got this car it it actually mite not be. Ive only invested 10k into the car so far includeing all the upgrades. Ive been buying all the parts second hand But everything is practically brand new. The break rotors I got for 300 bux and they were in out of the box perfect shape the only new things I put on the car were the calipers and those cost me 2.5k. If I continue like this I can jave my c4 about 90% up to GT3 specks and spent maybe 30k tops

Buying the GT3 engine and transmission won't be cheap.

it will more than likely be the most expensive parts I need to buy but I can get it for some where around 6k to 12k and maybe make half my money back. I can buy it off of an auction for cheap. And you linked a 2011 engine those are quite expensive especially since their still pritty new.im gana get a 996 2003-2005 engine. And i can prob get it off of a crashed GT3 that got hit in the front. Theres already one going up soon with only 12k miles on it

As long as you are aware that your modded car will never sound like a Mezger engine. Nothing personal; just an observation.

yea i know it wont and i also know its going to have less power aswell, but i dont mind honestly this car isent to go on the track or anything i bought it as a gift to myself just to work on it and keep it for a while to enjoy driving around in it. im still going to try and keep everything else to gt3 specks but not the engine. and im still going to keep everything OEM porsche. and since im not going to use it for racing i mite just return the brakes i bought for it and keep the rainbow kit the car came with. ill see what i decide on doing. i mite just sell off the side skirts too since their a different color.

Sounds like you got the right attitude. Just be sure it is safe and sound before you get too much speed in her.
