Intake hose disconnects -- any solutiosn?
I've recently begun tracking my (2008) 997.1 GT2. On my second track weekend, my car suffered an intake hose disconnect -- this is the short rubber hose between the Y-pipes and the throttle body, which is held on at each end with a simple screw clamp. I'm running a little higher boost via an ECU tune, which increases the pressure running through this intake hose, but I'm told it's even a problem with cars running stock pressure.
Apparently, Evolution Motorsports makes a no-leak, bulletproof replacement for this component for the 997 Turbo, but that only fits the turbo's 82mm throttle body, not the GT2's smaller 74mm one.
In talking to the Sharkwerks guys, this is not an uncommon problem when people begin tracking GT2's, but he didn't know of any fixes out there.
So, if you've had this problem (or heard of it), have you heard of a fix you can recommend (that doesn't entail replacing the entire air intake or manifold? My thought is that polyurethane engine mounts might reduce the amount of flex between the air intake Y-pipe (which is fixed to the body) and the engine, perhaps reducing the flex on this short host and decreasing the chance that it'll be pulled loose, but opinions seem to be mixed as to whether that will actually help or not.
