CGT Owners Advice required
Hi Guys,
A very good friend of mine is tempted to buy a previously loved CGT, he is hesitationg though because Porsche in Europe have informed him that it is not possible to extend the warranty once it expires after 2 years.
The question is this:-
What warranty do USA cars come with and can you extend the warranty.
Your response will be greatly appreciated,
Regards,
P.

The car is bullet proof. It's a Porsche. I have had some hard driving in mine and no problems. The people on this board will tell you I have quiet a few miles. Besides it is my experiance that with porsche they would stand behind some type of issue on the CGT 110%. I would buy the car.
I believe it is 4 years or 50,000. Not certain if you can extend the warranty.
Your friend should ask a lot of question regarding maintenance of the CGT. For an example, what is the cost of the valve adjustment required at 20,000 miles. What is the cost of a clutch replacement? There are costs associated with brakes and other race features of the car.
In the final analysis, if your friend has deep pockets then he should not concern himself with the costs and buy the car if it is what he wants.

When I purchased mine, I added a 7 year/100,000 mile extended warranty through my dealer. I made sure that it was transferrable.
I sold it and as far as I know it is at the Park Place Porsche dealership in Dallas, TX. They may have sold it by now, though.

If you are buying a used CGT from a Porsche Dealer chances are you can get a good warranty, my friend is looking at a CGT right now that is slightly loved
as you put it, and since it is used, they are selling it as some sort of certified used with a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty, it was a better warranty then what was offered on the new cgt's he was quoted.

Thanks guys, 4 years as standard and what ever you can squeeze out of the dealer.
Strange why it is only 2 years here in the UK.....

Could it have something to do with the difference in value between Sterling and Euros? Everything in the UK is EXPENSIVE for us and others outside the UK. Maybe they have to make that adjustment to make the car price competitive???
Warranties in the US are in general longer, many normal manufacturers offer 6 years or more on the powertrain.
In Europe, 2 yrs is now mandated by law as a minimum, so most offer 2yrs, with many choosing to offer 3 years. The only people that offer longer are those desperate to sells car cheap cars.

How much did the dealer charge your for the extended (7yr 100k) warranty for your CGT? My dealer didn't mention anything about the warranty. Do you think the extended warranty could be added when the original 4yr 50k warranty runs out?
Thanks,
Baron
