i, for one, am glad w/ my 996tt purchase. admittedly, the 997tt is better than i expected, and perfomance should be pretty good, but i think the 996tt is just a slightly better looking car that has already been proven to handle sufficient hp.

My car's currently down to 3463 lbs with a full tank of gas.

For those, concerned about performance, I wouldn´t worry. The 996TT X50 and S both had a claimed power of 450 HP, but can still hang with and beat both the F430 and the Gallardo. With a nominal horsepower increase of 25 HP, a much better power curve and improved aerodynamics, I don´t think the car will be any sort of slouch.
If it helps to understand, Porsche now owns 18,5% of VW, which own Audi, which owns Lamborghini. To help the relatively stagnant sales of the Gallardo (and with a facelift coming this year), Porsche have probably decided to keep the horsepower figure lower (this is based on rumors).
