replacement flywheel

Does anyone know the costs associated with changing the OEM flywheel to the single mass. I know once changed the car is noiser, but what are the benefits of doing such a change. What about durability and warranty. I did not do a search...something keep locking up my computer.

Because the single mass flywheel is about half the weight the flywheel is able to get up to speed quicker and in turn giving the car a quicker feel. The down side is that you will lose some of the smoothness of your shifting. As far as warranty goes check with your dealer they may even be willing to do it for you.

Flywheel

I had mine done by the dealer as part of a suspected RMS leak repair. Purchased the parts from Devek which were shipped directly to the dealer. Devek worked it out with my dealer. Great mod and all Porsche parts.

I just got off the phone with my Porsche salesman/ex-racer/ex-builder. He has had experience with the single mass flywheel and likes it. Hes checking on whether the P store will do the work and on any warranty issues. I'll know more later in the week.

Thanks guys for your assistance.

I've got the RS LWFW on my 996 Turbo. It's quite a bit noisier, but the improved throttle response is well worth it.

The shifting is just as smooth as with the OEM dual mass flywheel.

Was your clip recorded from inside the car?

Oh, I know it's normal. The noise my car makes isn't as loud as that recording, assuming the recording was made while sitting in the car. But if you put a microphone under my car, it would sound just like that recording.

In my car, the noise goes away by 2000-2200 rpm.

That is the sound of an incorrectly installed dual-mass flywheel, the bolts were too long. The sound of lightweight flywheel is similar but not really!

I also have a LWFW installed on my TT. It is a noisier than the stock dual mass FW, but really not that bad. I really like what it did for throttle response/control. IMO, well worth it for the benefits gained. If you are not tracking your car, maybe not worth it though. Unless, that is, you drive your car on the street as if it was on the track -- heal/toe downshifts etc.

It shouldn't be that bad. At least not if installed properly...
