2002 Gt2
2002 Gt2
Well, I'm on the verge of taking the plunge, again! Have never driven a Gt2, hell, I've only seen one, in the service parking lot at Champion Porsche when I bought my 3 (omen?). The only thing that worries me is that the warranty on the 2 runs out Aug 22, 2006. 60 days. The car history is clean, low miles, (4900) and they are letting me take it to a nearby Porsche dealer to have them give it the once over. Unfortunately, the Porsche dealership will not give me a CPO. I would appreciate any and all comments about the differences in power between my 3 and a 2. What I can expect and any advice regarding the purchase. Will keep you posted.
You can buy extended warranty form the Porsche dealership. Because the car has under 5K mile it'll qualify as new car warranty 4-7yr/ bumper to bumper. The cost is about $3-4K.
As for the difference in power, lets just say the GT2 will be more than you can handle (plus infinite mod potential.)

the extended warranty does not need to be "Porsche" but from another company. most dealers will have extended warranties that they sell that are better than the CPO. they should be able to help with this. its the finance preson that usually sells these. good luck.

Exactly!!!
However the dealer will be better in helping underwrite the policy specifically for your Porsche model.

Does anyone know of any warranty companies that are reputable? I believe the dealer that I am buying the car from does have a company that will extend the warranty? I'll find out who they are and post it.

Yeah that is pretty much exactly what I want right down to the deviated stitching.

I looked at that car before I bought my GT2. My car has more equipment, less miles and was 20k less! I asked, and they told me they could let it go for high 130's
9Eleven,
First - there are two other red GT2's on Auto trader - a 2002 with 50 miles for $139K in Indiana and a 2004 with 400 miles for $165K in TX - which was owned by a guy from Vegas (a very good collecter and now the owner of a 2005) and he sold it to RPM. The 2004 is priced based on being 1 of 20 in the USA - it has more ponies and a revised suspension with different shock, springs, rear control arms (changed geometry). So it would handle and ride similar to the GT3.
Production numbers for USA:
2002: 184
2003: 90
2004 20 (some say 24)
2005 7 (many say 5, a friend has the last one and they told him it was #7)
Each year some improvements were made. Big changes took place for 2004 -with more power and revised suspension.
Recently I know of 3 sales (not posted here already) - a seal grey 2003 with 4,500 miles for $110K (sold too cheap) - a red 2002 with 11,200 miles for $113K (a fair deal for both sides), both private party sales, both stock - and the last a 2003 with 4K miles for $150K at Newport Beach Porsche (they live is a perfect world) very nice car, but a bit pricey.
I think the red car you are looking at, pending options is a $120K - $125K car if it is super clean. Getting the warranty is nice, but I would not worry about it too much, you will be modding it in no time and when you do the warranty will be out the window anyway!
Now GT2 versus GT3 - I have a GT2 and have driven the 3 a number of times at the track. Steering on both cars is very similar in feel. Turn in on the 3 is more precise. Throttle imput on the 3 is easier and less abrupt, the 2 is more sensitive to on/off throttle, especially in turns. Cornering - 3 is more confidence inspiring, while the 2 is more challenging (and rewarding). Brakes - very similar, nod to the 3 as it is lighter. Straight line - 2 simply rips, while the 3 moves along. Mods - 3 for better handling and 2 for raw power (sky is the limit) and great handling can be had as well.
The 3 is precise, predictable, easy to drive. The 2 is fairly precise, raw, not to predictable and tough to drive. The 2 is probably a lot more fun on the street because you can scare yourself in a straight line. Both the 2 & 3 limits of handling are so high on the street you simply can't use all the car. The 3 has a better ride on the street (unless you get a 2004 or newer 2).
I went through the struggle of which one do I get - I got the 2 and have never regretted it. Your really need to do a search and find a car close by and go drive the 2 before you make the change as they are very different cars. Both great cars, good luck with your decision.
