Question re. PCCB Brakes
Question re. PCCB Brakes
I ordered PCCB's on my GT3 but now I'm considering changing to steel brakes. The cost to replace rotors is approx. $8000 and I'm told that rotors should be replaced with pads. Any of you guys with PCCB's agree with that and what kind of mileage can I expect from pads based on somewhat agressive street driving and the occasional track day.
Keep the ceeramics, for about less than $2000 you can convert to steel brakes, if you wish, and keep the ceramics in pristine condition.
If you want to add the ceramics later, it'll cost you around $12-15K
I followed my own advice!

Once you drive the ceramics you'll never go back (bite and consistency), but if you're a "racer" and the cost of the ceramics exceeds your comfortable budget, then you have the option of the steel brakes, but it doesn't work the other way around.
Ceramics are not a waste if you track, they might be expensive (especially if you overdrive the brakes)!

Thanks for the input, anyone have any idea's what kind of mileage I would get on the ceramics before pads and rotors need to be replaced? Like I said above I drive fairly aggressively on the street and do the occasional track day. I know it depends on driving style etc., but I'm trying to get some idea about expected mileage.

Get the carbons and never look back-
if someone told you that pads and rotors have to be repaced together' they'll full of ka ka - rotors should last at least 130k miles. how you treat the pads means nothing. Anyone telling you different hasn't seen a cup car carbon rotor after 30k -

Bruce you made the right choice. I don't know what Vincenttds is talking about. I have over 10k of PURE track time on my GEN 1 rotors with RS19 pads and they are the most amazing thing ever, if you are going to track the car is the only way in my opinion.
At this time I just wish my car had Gen 2 but it was jus my luck that the last Get of 996 GT3 had Gen 1 and not Gen 2.
At this time I am saving to get Gen 2 rotors on my car. ( as you know 15K doesn't grow on tree's over night
) I am having to change my rotors just for pure precausion and not because they are looking bad, since I am about to get into Club Racing I need to do so. Trust me as soon as I get the money for the Gen 2 Steel rotors will be my back ups again.

I decided to order them. I forgot that 1 of the advantages was the un-sprung weight issue, all together the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and Gen 2 ceramics are far more reliable than Gen 1. The Carrera S I drove at PDE had ceramics and they were amazing. Thanks for all the input.
