Just got back from picking it up...all I can say is WOW!!! The pictures in all the magazines don't do it justice! Here are 3 pics from my crappy camera phone while at the dealer. It was already dark out, so will post "real ones" tomorrow.
Drove the car 150 miles home. Unbelievable. Totally different car than my old turbo. Unfortunately all highway miles (no twisties) so haven't really "felt" the car yet. A few first impressions. Car is tight. You can feel everything (in a good way). Steering inputs, brakes, suspension. You can definitely feel the road, but even on an uneven highway, the jarring around wasn't unbearable. Short shifter is a champ...very close movements. Car sound is amazing with sport mode on. Like all the write ups say...at 4k RPM it rumbles. Thats an understatement! Don't think too many people will be putting on aftermarket exhausts. Only complaint I have is the damn break-in period
I know what gear I want to be in, but found myself lost trying to figure out which one to use so I wouldn't exceed 5k RPM (Screw the 4k RPM recommendation...have to have a little fun). Can't wait 'til I have enough miles on it to open it up.
PASM: Tried driving for an hour with the PASM in sport and another in standard mode. Couldn't tell the different (Then again, only driving down the highway, so probably no real difference)
Sport button: So far only advantage I see of not keeping it in sport mode all the time is if your trying to sneak home and your trying to "silence" your car
Sunroof: Found an awesome use for it for all you naysayers (did this for 3 hours). Put all the windows up, turn the radio off, and tilt the sunroof up. Guess what. No wind noise. And guess what you can hear twice as good? The MOTOR!
I'll post more writeup after I get to drive it sunlight on some nice windy roads
Couple other notes:
-- No Gas Guzzler Tax!!!
-- Yes, sport button with no "wart"
-- Yes Michelin Pilot Sport Cups
Another funny note...The cars made it to the US, but the owners manuals didn't. At least Porsche didn't keep the cars at the port while waiting for the owners manuals to show. Surprising though. Figured Porsche would be afraid of lawsuits because people didn't have "instructions" on how to drive their car.
6speed picture upload doesn't work, so here's a link:
