doing so in a new 997 Cup car chassis.
"I am really looking forward to this season. We have a new 997 Cup car, a new engine program from Porsche Motorsport, new shocks from Moton, new race wheels from HRE," said Sofronas. "And most importantly, I am returning with the same crew chief, Todd Ketcham, who is the best in the business. Our 2006 season proved what GMG could accomplish on the track."
James qualified in the top ten, 8 times during the season, and finished in the top five,4 times, finishing 8th in Championship points for the season. This really wasn't indicative of GMG's competitiveness on the track.
"We had some mechanical issues in 2006 that were out of our control preventing us from gaining crucial championship points," Sofronas said of last season. "This 2007 Season, however, will be a new chapter. With a new car that we stripped down and rebuilt with our own GMG suspension components and new Moton shocks, we should prove as competitive as ever against some of the best race car drivers in sports car racing!"
GMG, the premier Porsche tuning facility in Southern California, develops, tests and manufactures racing and high performance components for both the street and track, many of which can be found on their Speed GT Porsche 997 GT3 Cup entry.
"Our racing program directly trickles down to our street performance products, especially when it comes to suspension and engine tuning," James said of GMG's racing venture. "The Speed GT Series is the perfect venue for us to develop these products because we run on the DOT approved Toyo RA1, a tire many of our clients use for their own street cars when they take them to the track."
GMG's operations are based in Santa Ana, CA in a 15,000 sq.ft. facility located directly across the street from Porsche Motorsports North America. Additional sponsors and support come from Moton, Eibach, HRE wheels, European Car Magazine and Sparco. For more information, visit www.gmgracing.com.
