997 GT3 Track Tire question

Hi

for those that track their GT3 and use it on road (or anyone with the experience), do you track the car with the OEM wheels and just change tires or do you keep a full set of wheels and tires for track use.

i prefer the latter but am wondering if there is much advantage in sticking with a 19" combo or dropping back to 18" (performance wise on track)

any advice welcome

yss

Get a separate setup of wheels AND tires. Favor function over form on the track wheels. Get something light and strong. Don't worry about what it looks like. (If they're that ugly on the car, paint them black and noone will know.)

Be careful with your first few outings on slicks or other track-specific tires. The feedback you will get driving will be very different. Detecting the limits can become a minor challenge, so be careful.

I agree but if you have PCCB on a 997GT3 then 18" is out of the question the front caliper will not clear

How often do you plan on tracking the car?

How many street miles will you drive?

Where do you live?

What alignment settings will you run?

track once every 4 - 6 weeks on average
live in Australia
roads are pretty good
Street miles per annum - assume 5,000 - not more in this car

I would say get a set of Michelin PS'2 for the street for the stock rims and 18" BBS with Toyo RA-1's for the track. Run the track alignment all the time.

May i ask if you use the toyo's yourself
they show a 225/40/18 rfont and 335/30/18 rear

will a 335 fit on the GT3?

what offset on the rims would you need?

how do they compare with a P Zero Corsa?

what alignment do you run on the car?

thanks

yss

245 front and 305 rear

track alignment in the manual is a good starting point. Toyos are great if they are shaved.

offsets are 53 front 65 rear

I appreciate your info - what width would work in 18" BBS with the offsets as above?

18" x 8.5" or 9" and 18" x 11.5" or 12"

Talk to Fabryce at GMG.
