Now we know Porsche can legally bring GT3's to the states without sunroofs. I really can't justify spending $10k+ to "delete" an option, though.

Has anybody found information that might indicate that PCNA has changed their mind? Will they allow us to spec the sunroof delete for the standard GT3 for the 2008 model year? I want to order a GT3, but I'm pretty tall and see myself tracking the GT3 so I'll need clearance for a helmet. I really appreciate not having a moonroof on my M3.

Thanks in advance for any help you might have in this matter.

you are way off.
first the price difference b/n RS and non RS is more than 10k
second, you dont get much more in the RS compared to the non RS. the difference is rather minimal. no this is not sour grape talking. i have the RS.
third, you will not find non RS without sunroof. thus if the hole is a concern to you. RS is your only option, ulness you have arling expertly remove the roof skin and put on another without the hole.

I didn't say it was 10k! I said that I couldn't justify spending "$10k+" for the RS merely to delete an option. To me, it's a bit silly that I'd have to pay to delete an option in the first place.

I also didn't say the cars were very different. However, I did say that the RS was more than just a sunroof delete (i.e., wing, wider rear track), but that the only feature that I really want from the RS is no hole in the ceiling. It is different from the standard GT3, albeit only in exclusivity and a few minor tweaks that only aficionados can appreciate--otherwise why would people buy it over the standard car?

We'll see if PCNA changes their mind about the hole in the roof for 2008. I understand that the sunroof was mandatory for 2007, though. But if it really came down to it, I'd rather pay to get the factory GT3 RS with no hole than throwing money at "deleting" it from an already built GT3.

I put on my order sheet, "Sunroof Delete". The sales guy giggled at that, but we will see what happens.

sasportas has a spectacular aura aboutsasportas has a spectacular aura about
Gt3 Rs

If you're going for looks alone, then get the RS. If you just want to drive and spend the extra 15K on track goodies like roll bar, seats, tires, wheels, harness, etc... then get the GT3. As far as the roof is concerned, the seats in the 997 are lower than they were in the 996. Also, if you switch to racing seats, you can change the side adapters and lower the seat even more than stock - giving you plenty of room. I wouldn't chance missing a GT3 or RS just because of the roof. Life is just too short for you not to experience and enjoy the GT3 now.
