Look at what I got to drive Yesterday
I was at willow springs raceway (Big Track) Yesterday.
I took my car around the access road to cool off the car and saw the AMG Mercedes group at the streets. Wow, I was just talking about the CLK black series an hour ago, and what an awsome car it would be at 130k.
Some luck, here it is.
They are doing a car review on all the AMG series cars with European and US magazines.
Went back at the end of the day and to my suprise they offered me the car to drive around the track.
500 HP, 600 Turque, paddle shift Yumm.
I drove around the track for about 7 or 8 laps. Handeles great. ANd according to the AMG guys the CLK black series is faster around the track than an SLR. So much turque but a bit heavy 4450 LBS. But you can easily drive it hard around corners by using proper steering technique and throttle.
Ay way I loved the car and should be any easy choice for any Mercedes enthusiast.

I'm pretty sure it's around the 3500 lb mark, not 4500 pounds.
I looked at the door panel and it read 4450 Gross Wieght.
It definetly felt over 4000 Lbs.
Car should be available in the US before the end of the year.
Only 350 cars for the US market - I wonder how much $ if any over MSRP is it going to be sold for.
I was told it did a hot lap of around 7.57 at the ring.
Any one know what the SLR and 997 gt3 time is at?
One feeling that is still with me today, is all that torque and sound of the exaust - hmmm.

By the way, the guy standing by the silver clk, that has his arms crossed is that famous DTM race car driver. Forgot his name, Klause Ladwik maybe?
Anyway I am still exausted from driving around 175 miles on the track and can't think straight.
But boy what a stress relieve it is to drive the GT3 at Big Willow, and to top it off - get to drive the Black Series all by myself at the streets.

My car, according to the old mbusa.com website, weighs out at 3,600 pounds.
I just have a really hard time believing that they added over 800 pounds of weight to the CLK chassis. I mean even the CLK63 convertible weighs in at 3900 pounds...

I *thought* the black series was going to be less "racey", but it looks very much like a CLK DTM... *Niiice*
Check out the AMG website
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes-amg.do
It shows the total weight is 1995 kg = 4398 lbs.
It would have been really sweet at 3600 lbs.

Total Weight is with passengers, car is more like 3800 to 3900 pounds. A CLK55 is 3600 pounds and change so there's no way the CLK63 will be that much heavier with all these carbon panels and bits. I'd interested in one but would like to retain the rear seats as this really isn't a true 2 seaters or shouldn't pretend to be.
