GT3 or R8 opinons?
I'm thinking about ordering a GT3 but almost given up with all the hassel such as finding allocation and selling my Turbo. I'm just curious if people on the board feel the Audi R8 would be the better choice. I recalled the R8 is faster in terms of magazine racing. Does anyone know what are the time on the Ring?
I think the GT3 will feel lighter, edgier, and overall be a more involving driving experience. The R8 is more of a unique, look-at-me car, with great performance...that's just my opinion without driving either of them.

i have driven both cars while i was in scottsdale
the r8 is fast, beautiful, and handles like the gt3 could only dream of
however
i would choose a gt3 over an r8
the gt3 is a race car
the r8 is a sports car
i would rather get the r8 over a c4s
not the gt3 thougu

IMO the r8 is more of an exotic that the porsche. it is more of a race car, while the gt3 is more of a sport car, just my opinion.
having owned a few cars from each company....i would take the audi

Apples and Oranges. R8 is a slick, pull up to the valet "check out the hot new Audi" car. Very heavy car with just OK power for the street, but mostly a design statement. The GT3 is years of performance refinement. No design statement necessary. The Aston Martin V8 would be a more suitable comparison for the Audi.

i would actually like to see this r8 vs and m3 csl. i bet it would get its *** handed to it.
I would liken the R8 more to an NSX, a car you can drive daily and also have a ball at the track with. It isn't raw like the GT3, just very capable and sporting excellent steering feel with amazing handling. You could drive all day in the R8 and be comfortable.
hey skoj-explain to me why the r9 was only able from what ive been able to search and find, run only 7:55 at the 'ring'. you do know that the 997TT ran a 7:40 and the GT3 IIRC ran 7:42-7:43. and if you didnt know...12-15 seconds on the ring is an eternity.

If we go by Sport Auto's numbers (a better gauge because the driver, HvS, stays constant), the times are as follows:
7:46 - 996 GT2
7:48 - 997 GT3 RS (R-tires)
7:48 - 997 GT3 (R-tires)
7:49 - C6 Z06
7:54 - 996 GT3 (R-tires)
7:54 - 997 Turbo
7:56 - 996 Turbo
Some more magazine racing numbers:
From EVO UK (Bedford West Circuit):
1:22.1 - R8
1:22.8 - Gallardo (520HP)
1:23.1 - 997 GT3
1:23.1 - 599 GTB Fiorano
1:23.5 - 997 Turbo
1:24.2 - F430
On street tires, the R8 is faster than the 997 Turbo around Hockenheim (according to Sport Auto): 1:12.7 vs. 1:13.7.
The next issue of Sport Auto will have the R8 Supertest. Now that's something to look forward to.

Anyway all this bickering is stupid, 2 totally different cars.. The GT3's handling quoted by every magazine is flat out INSANE, it doesnt need or have AWD to make the grip it does..
