There is a lot of debate over that time as the car was modified. Quite of few of the websites that list Ring times have removed it.
There was an independent test done for the C6 Z06 that was low 7:50s and the car was ran stock. This time is probably more accurate than what we saw from Chevy's "special" test car.

i don't believe that 50 horsepower, 45 more lb-ft of torque and 300 pounds less will only get 3 seconds better. I understand how long three seconds is, but the gt2 is a whole different animal.
PS, if you count the way you described, the TT would be four seconds slower.
Okay, my misunderstanding. a 7:37 from a 7:54 is more of the difference i was expecting. who knows, these are the times i was using

whatever, anyway, yay for the gt2. it'll be an amazing car no matter what times it puts down at nordschleife.

You are correct, I assumed that you would know to stop and see the TT coming in at the 3,1000 mark.
50HP and 300 lbs will not get you much better at a 7-8 minute track, either way you slice it the GT2 is and always be the "real" Porsche 911Turbo and what the turbo was from the original concept. By my standards anyway, I dont mean to knock the 996/997TT in any way shape or form as I have had them just favor the GT2 over them in any light.
