In the most famous magazine test, Sport Auto "Supertest" the 997 Turbo managed "only" 7.54, not sure what's Porsche's official time but it can't be far...
7:36 --- 162.631 km/h -- Porsche Carrera GT, 612 PS/ 1475 kg, factory test driver Walther Röhrl (02)
7:40 --- 161.217 km/h -- Porsche 997 Turbo, 480 PS/ ??? kg, Michelin Cup Sport tyres (Motortrend)
7:42 --- 160.519 km/h – Porsche 997 GT3 RS, 415 PS/1420 kg (*mfr.)
7:43 --- 160.173 km/h -- Porsche 996 GT3 RS, factory test driver Walter Roehrl (MOTOR magazine)
So, guess it is right where it should be?

You cannot compare times from different magazines unless you know they are timing the same length... For example sportauto drives through T13 which adds 5-7s compared to BTG-times.
The 997 turbo definitely will not lap the ring in 7:40 without r-compound tyres.

Only 3 Seconds you say? ONLY, 3 seconds is eternity in motor sports.
Visualize please....
997GT2 flies by and then count
1, 1000
2, 1000
3, 1000
And THEN
the 997TT comes in.

TT: 480hp/460tq/505tq overboost at a weight of 3494
i don't believe that 50 horsepower, 45 more lb-ft of torque and 300 pounds less will only get 3 seconds better. I understand how long three seconds is, but the gt2 is a whole different animal.
PS, if you count the way you described, the TT would be four seconds slower.

whatever, anyway, yay for the gt2. it'll be an amazing car no matter what times it puts down at nordschleife.
Looks like I might have to buy one.
It's ugly... but I'll do what Porsche did and get it in Black to hide the fugly wing and vents.
What an amazing car. A great follow-up to its awesome predecessor.
