997 GT2 7.37 on NBR
Umm, pardon me but aren't we getting ahead of ourselves? I'm sure the 997 GT2 is going to be an excellent car, but 7:32 on the 'Ring? I struggle to think of how it can match, let alone eclipse, the times set by cars like the CGT, Zonda F, and Koenigsegg CCR.

When the 996 GT2 was tested it also had one of the fastest Ring times for it's day at 7:46. Walter Rohrl stated that with better tires the 996 GT2 (they were fitted with Michelin Pilot Sports) time would have been considerably better. The 997 Turbo can lap the ring in 7:40 on regular street tires and AWD. The 997 GT2 has less weight, more power, better suspension and aerodynamics, RWD and Michelin Sport Cup tires. The 7:32 time is not unrealistic at all given the variables above. Rohrl's best time in the CGT is 7:29 (the car is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 2s) and he has stated that with a better tire the car would be significantly faster.

spoke to a principal I trust, and he says most dealerships will get 1, maybe two cars, with most just getting a factory spec'd launch car....he reiterated that Porsche have learned some lessons from the past, and that this car will be limited production (I know, FWIW). To be honest, there maybe some validity to this....everyone thought the GT3 would be produced to oblivion, but 2008 only gets what, 68 RS's and 100 or so regular GT3 ? Numbers are still strong on those cars, and the number I was given for the GT2 was 900 cars worldwide. Maybe full of crap, but signs point to a limited production, and possible value stability.
Get this ...he also said the goal was to see this car appreciate in its first year, and keep its value....flame suit on now.

Btw Josh I totally agree, the 996 GT2 produced a 7:42 as its fastest lap time around the Nurburgring and I believe 7:28 not 7:29 for the CGT , both being on street tires from Michelin. These cars are mind blowing and engineered so well, why are people so surprised!

There was an independent test done for the C6 Z06 that was low 7:50s and the car was ran stock. This time is probably more accurate than what we saw from Chevy's "special" test car.

The 997 Turbo @ 7:40 was on Sport Cups, not PS2's.
This is very fast but I dont doubt it. 4 seconds behind the CGT sounds about right.
I bet it still doesnt beat the Z06 time at VIR with C&D though. HAHAHAHAHH
