The alcantara in my opinion feels great, durability is typically not as good as leather, especially if your hands sweat. moisture screws up alcantara over time. But for me I usually try to drive with gloves for longer trips, and just bare hands for quick short drives.

Not Porsche related but the alcantara seat inserts in my Evo's Recaro's held up much better than leather from my M after 20,000m each.

The leather was stretching a wee bit and showing its age while the Alcantara on the much cheaper car looked brand new.

I also spilled a 16oz bottle of water on the passenger seat...cleaned up nicely, no staining, no problems.

My salesman told me that the alcantara steering wheel and shifter in his 996 was starting to "bead" with use.

I personally chose leather for all surfaces where I could.

Any GT3 owners out there have comments on how their leather/alcantata seats are wearing?

I like the look and feel of the alcantara wheel and shifter....luckily these parts are not 'that' expensive (I think $4xx for the wheel) to where replacement every 2 years or so would not hurt that much if your hard on the parts.

since the alcantara is specific to the gt3, i figure i am going to give that a try... if i dont like it, i will switch to a leather wheel/shifter later, which as indicated is probably $500 or so... the alcantara ought to at least last a couple years, so i accept this as an acceptable 'upgrade' $ if it is necessary later

Love it in the seats. Shows exactly what position my wifes big butt was in when she exited the passenger side. I am not really happy with the wheel and shifter. I miss the thicker wheel of my 996 GT3 and the carbon shifter. I am going to replace my shifter with the carbon alcantara shifter when the time comes-Gert has it.
love the Alcantara for the headliner Really classy- Actually the whole interior is VERY classy with out full leather. MUCH better than the 996-light years ahead. I would have put a bit more carbon trim it and will do that as time progress and when the wife doesnt notice 2 or 3 thousand dollars missing from my Home Depot fund.

I don't have the alcantara steering wheel in my RS, I optioned for the thicker wheel and I like it a lot. I have been autocrossing all summer and I think that by now an alcantara wheel would have been matted out because of all of the sweat from the heat. I bought an OEM RS steering wheel for my C2S but it is still sitting on a shelf in my garage.

I agree with OldGuy
A little carbon in the interior breaks it up and looks great
