why take a chance? i think even if nothing happens, what is the harm in taking precaution. so, if it were me, and it has been me, i'd tape just to be on the safe side.
On my GT3 - I had it partiallly covered in Clear bra before I plan to take it to the track. Even when/if I track it, It is going to be somewhat rare basis since I don't want it to have all the front end rock chips.
My SM is my track biatch.

I also thin that even if you do, you cant tape everywhere and you WILL get chips where there is NOT tape.

i hope you have instruction. a closed track is not the place to bring any kind of ego or scuffs in your paint will be the least you have to worry about. if you go off sideways at buttonwillow there is a very good chance of the car catching in the soft dirt and flipping. check with your ins. co. policy and make sure they don't specifically exclude any kind of driving on a closed course. worry more about being safe driving than the cars paint. painters tape will help with the various stuff getting kicked up by other cars. be safe and have fun! the track is where a GT3 should be.
Give it a goat of wax then 3M blue painter'stape it. It will come off a lot easier.
You should buy a traditional front bra (if you don't have a clear bra) for the front. Then just tape behind each wheel well.
Now you can fun and push the car and not worry about droppin off a wheel or two...

If you stay off the tail of others, you will receive very little damage to your paint. If you begin to ride others butt in an effort to pass, you will begin to see sand blasting and damage.
Another option for you folks if you don't like painters tape is "Clear Pre Mask" from a sign shop. By Medium tack. You can typically get it in 6 or even 12" widths. It goes on fast and comes off fast. It is also much thicker than Painters tape.
