Mods for the LP640

Hi guys. I am contemplating on modding the LP640. It was purchased about a year ago and its got about 600 miles on it. I am contemplating the following mods and need some advice on em.

1 - Exhaust - I am considering the Hamann exhaust w/sport cats but have not found a single review on 6speed about them. I even heard that the sport cats "may not" throw a CEL but no confirmation. I haven't found any other exhaust as good as the Hamann , but am willing to hear what else is out there that makes the LP sound more F1 style or ear piercing loud (Kreiseigg was not good enough for me).

2 - ECU - Again , I only found EVOMS as a tuner who could reflash the ECU. Any other tuner?

3 - Seats - I am considering the sport seats on offer by Lamborghini as I find the stock seats uncomfortable even for short , 10 - 20 min drives. Any recommendations ?

4 - Steering wheel - Going for a thicker wheel by MACarbon. Anything else out there?

Any other worthwhile mods are welcomed. Thanks for any help possible.

I have Larini secondary bypasses and then an OC exhaust on my LP and I love the way it sounds.

Ecu I never feel is worth the money on a car like the LP.

Seats - there may be another alternative.

Lamborghini OC's exhausts always get great reviews. Obviously supply is limited since they are closed. The CEL issues obviously are minimal with stock cats. Losing the weight and the restrictive stock pipes might be enough. You may want to to try leaving the stock cats for a few weeks before doing the freer flowing ones.

The sport seats are cool and they look great but I found the lack of an ability to recline extremely limiting. They are one piece and the driving position is very erect so I could not fit in the car with the sport seats (I am 6'5"). I was very disappointed because I was really hoping for some more headroom from the lower profile seats.

I would not do the ECU. I know that the guys at EVO are doing great things with their Porsches but these cars are very sensitive and I am not really confident that they are going to make a whole lot more power and the risk of catastrophic engine damage is really there.

Steering wheel is personal preference but if you want it, go for it.

Unless you are really driving the car at 10/10ths all the time, you won't need the extra hp. I would suggest doing some crazy visual mods (painted wheels, wrap the car, etc.) and and a louder exhaust if you are bored with the car.

Just my thoughts. Good luck!

I've sat in the sport seats. they aren't as comfortable as the regular seats so I think you're going to have some issues there.

check out the sp racing exhaust. i've heard a few sound clips and it sounds good. I think they only do the "stage 2" in house (california) but you should be able to buy stage 1 which doesn't replace any cats. therefore it shouldn't throw any codes either.

For exhausts, they don't get much better than this!

I was considering Larini,Capristo,Tubi and Hamann. But ended up ordering Hamann cats and exhaust. Bloody thing sounds like an alien shriek (the way a lambo V12 should sound)!

MrEdS4, I am getting really close to pulling the trigger on a Gallardo but am concerned about fitting in comfortably. I am just shy of 6'3 and 200 lbs. Not so much worried about the height, but will my height be a big issue??

Thanks a lot!

Why mod a car you never drive? Seems like a waste of money and a car to me. 600 miles in a year? Just sell it....

I can't wait to hear your impressions about the exhaust.

We carry the Hamann line and they make some incredible products.

Yes it is the e gear. Selling isn't an option right now so lets just stick to the question asked.
Thanks.

I am 6'5" and about 185. We have had a Gallardo in our rental fleet for a little over three years and put about 20k miles on it. I find it pretty uncomfortable to drive most of the time. To be honest, the saving grace is the lack of visibility. If you are driving it at reasonable speed and looking around then the movement of your head is likely to keep it from hitting the roof. Mine is an 04 and I believe that the 06's got about half an inch more room from somewhere. Honestly, I would need 3-4 more inches to feel comfortable. If it were just my car, then I would take the seats to an upholstery shop and have most of the padding removed.

I find the legroom to be more sufficient than the headroom but still lacking. I wear a size 14 shoe so it would not be easy to drive a stick. I have to spread my knees around the steering wheel so the shift lever would also interfere with my knee. Ultimately though, it is going to depend on how your height is distributed between legs and torso.

Jeremy Clarkson always says that he can fit in any car that he wants to. He is my height and I can see how that makes sense. I have driven Elises, small race cars, and lots of other things that are smaller than the G but you have to be pretty motivated.

I had to sit in traffic for about 20 minutes in the car yesterday and it was very uncomfortable.

Good luck with your choice.

-Ed
