I assume you mean this thread, http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/sh...ck-Kev-amp-Pro., or this one http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/sh...b-Nick-amp-Pro.. If so, thanks, those were BOTH SUCH great trips.

Back on topic, the Aventador is an AMAZING car. For MY money, I'll keep the GT, but if I was being GIVEN either one, well, the Aventador is worth more $, so......as long as I could have it, drive it, enjoy it, and then sell it to get a GT. The big 'door is a crazy sick car. Better than the SV it replaces (except maybe in looks, IMO). It does everything it's meant to do, and it does it all exceedingly well. And the computers likely make the driver into a real rock star race car video game hero driver. But the GT is an engaging experience. And a fantastic thrill EVERY time you drive it. And believe me, YOU have to actually DRIVE it, it will not drive you. It's an audience participation car, not a studio audience car (if you get my analogy).

Then again, you have a GT too, you understand this all too well. The latest and greatest (Aventador) will always be tempting. Sub'd to find out your choice.

The FGT is in fact a pretty special engine. It is not an Lighting SVT engine. It is, however, "based" on the same block but very different. It is aluminum, it has been engineered with different ribbing and oil galleys and it is dry sump. That rates as special in my book. Not quite as exotic as the Lambo's but just as if not more capable. As Jermey Clarkson put it "a real blue collar hero".

The Matech FGT was in the lead at LeMans two years (its first return in 40 years) ago for 8 hours in class and increasing its lead until it got it by another car and taken out of the race. But for that it history was likely to repeat itself for the FGT. I was crushed but "thats racing".

While the new GT500 has an aluminum block to do not believe it is the saem as the FGT block and it certainly is not dry sump.

Every see a twin turbo FGT? They are beyond stupid fast. I get giddy just watching them on YouTube. They are so fast you just have to laugh. Holy$hit.

You know my vote.

That said, I wasn't cross shopping my GT with a new Murci or Avendator. I cross shopped Gallardo's and Scuderia's. Both are great, but the 'exoticness' of the engine wasn't worth the maintenance and they are both in a state of constant evolution (replacement). Further, I'm at 700bhp with just a pulley/tune. Not going to happen in one of the Italians. (not comparing to the TTG's.. that's another ballgame).

In a similar light, The Aventador is stunning, but at the end of the day it will be one in a long line of (amazing) now-updated Lamborghini's.

If I were dropping $300K+ on a car, it's Carrera GT FTW.

Thanks, really fun times. I've got the pics all on an archive disc. I'll look it up and see what's there. That 'particular' pic was not mine (you can see my car leading the pack there )

The racerx - that's an awesome picture. The image I have of driving in the US, wide roads, the scenery and a couple of blue oval V8s. That picture made my day. Cheers.

Very nice input guys! Love the quote about the curves vs angles.

Regarding CGT, it is about as impractical as a car can get in terms of maint and drivability on the street. Having driven with 2 CGTs, they low side when going through road dips and are scary at supercar speeds. I absolutely love CGT but wouldn't put it in comparison with FGT or Avantador, maybe the McLaren F1 or F40.

Yeah, I can see that.. but I don't think people are buying a CGT (or an Aventador or a FGT) with daily driving on their minds.

The Audi-ness does allow the Lambo's to be 'fairly practical' as drivers, but you already know you can't leave a Lambo (or a FGT) by itself for very long. I agree that the Lambo is equipped to be a 'safer' car at top speeds.

I always think 'what else can I buy for x dollars?'. Then I think 'how much am I going to drive this?'

At $300K+, I'm not looking for a daily.. I'm looking for the most special car I can find. That car, for me (answering the two questions above), is the CGT.

YMMV.

ps.. I'm confused a little (more than usual)....you suggested a few days ago that the CGT would be a good (upgrade from Gallardo) car for Rob in lieu of an Aventador or SV:https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post3404232

I have spent a lot of time on Fordgtforum.com reading threads over the past few years, like I have spent time on many other forums of cars that interest me.

I have read the threads that show these engines taken apart and read the details like the stronger parts involved and how guys screw with them to make more power. So I know a lot of info, enough to stand by my statement that the 5.4 V8 in the GT is IMO nothing special in the scheme of things at Ford, yet very capable.

I have never liked supercharged or turbocharged passenger cars. Don't care about ridiculous HP numbers as they are useless in the real world. And I do know more than the average car enthusiast about engines. I have removed mine from my car and serviced it. I have also bought a rare spare for my vehicle and have taken the engine apart.

Here is not the exact video but close enough for what I consider a special engine from Ford

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ1nfaQQt-M

I was going to mention a thread I remember on the GTforum about a trip that a group took from near Vancouver down into the US along the Rockies. It had some of the best car photo's I have ever seen.

Just because you have read a forum does not make you a expert. If you have read the GT forum then you must be a "expert" on who I am. I'm Mullet on the GT forum.

I like how you compare the GT motor's power (a 2005 model) to a modern Shelby (a 2011-2012 model?). Yes a newer car is going to have more power. How about you take a 1000 hp Shelby and a 1000 hp GT. Which one is going to be faster.....the answer is the GT. If you want to test that bring a 1000hp Shelby to Houston and I will run it with my 1000 hp GT.

Anyways, to me a special engine is not graded by hp output. Some of the characteristics that matter are sound it produces, technology including materials and build process (for its time), smoothness, endurance, and even looks.

From everything I've read the FGT will perform with or exceed the Carrera GT in performance. I'm talking stock too.

The Aventadore is beautiful but have you guys seen the prototype of the new Masserati Muira. OMG!

Lamborghini's Muira Concept from 2006? Gorgeous car, but Lambo management said it was simply a styling exercise that won't ever see production. A real shame as a little retro could never be a bad thing (read: Ford GT, new Mustang, Z8, Mini, Fiat 500, new VW Bug, et al).

Yeah, that Lambo Miura concept is simply stunning. Take off the front winglets and relocate the lower side scoop, IMO. Too bad it's unlikely to see production.

For the life of me I don't understand why it won't see production.

I think guys would be tripping over themselves to get one. I for one would definitely put it on my list of must haves probably even in front of the Avendatore. I LOVE retro styling.
