is that possible? looks like they're suppose to roll to the start line at the same speed at the same time, and then gunning it from there. so you have from the start of the track to where that light is to make it happen.
Yes, they have a few hundred feet from the starting point to get up to speed, then after they are at speed, they enter in the pacing box (green flags in the video). Anytime they are in the green flagged zone, a spotter checks to make sure they are fairly even, and gives them a green light. If they aren't lined up, they get a red light and start over. In any race, each driver's reaction time is going to come into play, so you aren't always going to have both people jump at exactly the same time. A split second delay in hitting the go pedal, is enough to lose a race!
