Just finished reading - yes a great one. I am actually thinking of replacing my M5 with the Macan Turbo. I wouldn't mind a higher riding height and 4WD!

I love Porsches. Have owned more Porsches then any other car type. Four in all. However, I look at the utility and effectiveness of an SUV I just can't seem to wrap my head around spending $80K+ for an SUV. No doubt the Macan is a great product as all are from Porsche. But let's face it everything about owning a Porsche cost more by at least 25% over most of it's competitors. When i went looking for a new SUV and did extensive research the obvious choice for us was the Audi Q5 TDI in the Prestige Package. Just last week we took it for it's first road trip to Lake Tahoe. It was a joy to drive, had all the comfort you could ask for in an SUV and we averaged 36.7 mpg over the trip up and back from the Bay Area. The torque was phenomenal (428 ft lbs) and while driving in cruise control at 75 mph most of the time the tach was at about 1800 rpm. The Turbo S Macan is great looking, nicely appointed like most Porsches are but paying that much for an SUV seems to be a stretch. My less than $56K Q5 more then satisfied me who I would describe as a pretty demanding car buyer. Plus who really buys an SUV so you can do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Save the money for another Porsche (car) that is designed to drive with spirit, speed and agility. Not an SUV.

Having raced/rallied at least a dozen Porsches for a generation, the Macan Turbo is The Perfect Answer to utility and sport for my needs (and a bargain at that price...shh...don't tell Porsche). That 4.4 sec time is a reflection of this new SUV's high level capability and flexibility in most practical speed ranges, which also equates to safety - think how fast it could translate to avoiding an errant miscreant in front of you on the highway, where physics may not be on the side of the Q5, just as it would not be on the side of a Macan versus a 911 or Cayman. The Q5, great in its own class, is not comparable to the Macan Turbo in any way in this price class, so I don't feel the need to save my money for another Porsche. The Macan Turbo is indeed designed to be driven with spirit, speed and agility, and perhaps even to a greater degree and frequency as a DD than my other Porsche.

Well said.

Buying Porsche is never about saving money anyway.
