Extended Warranty Thoughts

Figure many here have more experience with various Porsche models.

Dealer is offering $3500 for 7 years, 70k miles, Platinum Fidelity warranty on the Macan Turbo. Seems to cover a lot, anyone have experience or thoughts?

I've only had 1 car for more than 3.5 years in my life, so honestly not sure if I'll make it beyond the 4y/50m factory warranty. I wouldn't be moving away from my 958 if it weren't for the Macan Turbo. However, the extra piece of mind and the fact that it transfers or can be cancelled/prorated towards another Porsche makes it sound a little more enticing, esp on a first year model and new engine.

TIA.

I assume that means the Fidelity warranty is really for the 3 years/20k miles after the factory warranty expires. I expect you could purchase it closer to the expiry of the factory warranty and not pay any more than that. I purchased a platinum Fidelity warranty for my 911 a couple of years ago at the end of the CPO warranty period. I paid about $3600 for an additional 4 years/48k miles. My car had about 36k miles at the time and was 6 years old.

Exactly. No use buying it 4 years ahead of time. I have never bought one and have not been burnt yet.

Thanks for setting me straight. It was late, lots of thoughts going through my head yesterday after learning my order arrived a week early, and the 30 min session w the finance manager starting playing tricks in my mind. The next morning, clearer thoughts prevailed.

It it's a chunk of money and we all know they push these because they are profitable. As a new Porsche buyer, one thing to keep in mind - if Porsche has a rash of a certain big problem that occurs after warranty, they historically have provided free repairs to original owners even tho warranties were expired. That in itself would make me reluctant to buy an extended warranty on a new Porsche. IMO, it is better to save your money for the more routine but expensive maintenance it will need.
