Saw a Granturismo yesterday
Damn is the Granturismo one hot looking car...I saw a red one yesterday in my town...I could be very tempted to sell the 911 for one of these!
As it is the 911 is becoming my DD...that damn Cobra beast of mine has ruined me for soft GT cars!! If I'm going to drive a soft car...why not one as damn sexy as that Maserati!

Not terribly underpowered...just very very overweight...>4100 lbs.
It's a beautiful car, very comfortable, leather smells divine, but it is heavy (very) and will not respond like a Porsche. Back seats offer little more than a Porsche.
Remember, too, that it has 8 BIG cylinders. So it's going to eat a bit more gas than a Porsche.
I liked the way it drove but found it was staying in high revs at low speeds, and I did not think the brakes were adequate. I subsequently found I was not alone in that feeling!
It's a very nice car but I determined it was not for me. I'd opt for a Porsche, and I am leaning in that direction.

The only thing a 997 and a GT have in common is that they are both classified as GT's. You would be seriously disappointed if you drove one- it's a boat, but a nice boat at that.

Before you consider the switch much further, walk into at least 2 of the dealer service areas and count the ones for repairs. An 'acquaintance' says the car was built around the joke: you need two, one to drive to the dealership to pick up the one they just fixed.
His complaint is there's always some-little-thing that isn't right, and no easy, in and out fix. I drove it, and as posted earlier, it's a wonderful, sumptuous, experience, but it doesn't have the Ummmph or braking the 997 Turbo has. If I was to switch, I'd have to go Aston Martin DBS over the GT - that's j<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

Your experiences are fairly accurate, but indeed they are different cars for different markets.
I think the TT is much more exciting and involving; the GT is a more conservative vehicle type. Porsche is more on an enthusiasts car.
Can't speak to its maintenance.
Unfortunately as eclou stated, it probably will greatly devalue in short order.
The Maserati Grand Turisimo is a truly beautiful car, but you simply cannot compare its performance envelope to that of a 997TT. I'd compare it to a 2009 C2 with PDK and I'd still take the 911. For the Maserati to have similar performance to a stock 997TT it would need to slim down to 4000 lbs. and increase its engine output to literally 600 hp. Now if Maserati can produce a 4000 lb. GT with 600 hp for about $140-$150K, then Porsche may start to lose some of its "GT" daily driver customers to Maserati. I wouldn't hold your breath. Plus Porsche may have an answer to that theorem also - Panamera (?) .....
