Hello. Some hugely informative posts, here. I am looking at an 07 Quattropote with 100,000 miles. No one's buying it. I had a bad experience with a Jaguar XJ350 because of the huge price of suspension componetns and bushes. I think that engines, today, are reliable, but does the Maserati have expensive issues with suspension and running gear? This is a dream car at a price I can afford to buy...but can I afford to run it? Many thanks for feedback.

 

Hi, the car is really cheap to buy - probably the cheapest car which u ever can buy with a Ferrari Motor. But there are a lot of issues with the suspension, transmission and a lot of other Stuff. I really don’t recommend you to buy this car if you are not sure if you can afford to maintain it. In my Opinion the Standard QP needs also a bit work that you can enjoy it. And if you buy one, buy a newer one - I think after 09 - they look much better with the new Grill and LEDs in the Head and Taillights.

 

Find one with the ZF transmission. The dual clutch system for that year was a disaster. One less thing to worry about in the sea of maintenance requiring many Ferrari parts.

If you see that little T **** to control the transmission run away. Find the ones with the standard auto transmission handles you see in most cars.

 

07 might have the Skyhook system which carries problems too

 

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but a friend of mine is looking at a 2008 Quattroporte Sport GTS, about 64,000 km on the clock (that's about 40,000 miles). The asking price after some negotiation is HK$75,000 (~US$9,700).

The one thing I advised him was to make sure it had the ZF automatic gearbox (in other words the double cupholder) which it does. We are also told that last year the owner replaced the L/R window kits and this year replaced the air con compressor and put in 8 new coils for the engine.

Is there anything else that should be looked at in detail? Key things to test? We took it for a test drive and it sounds and feels in decent condition but well aware of Maserati's difficulties in maintenance.

Great looking car but they aren't exceedingly cheap to maintain. You can find average maintenance costs and then just see if it fits in your budget.

I will say though, that these vehicles depreciate much faster that other high end sports cars and therefore end up in price brackets against other used vehicles that started off much cheaper. The maintenance and upkeep costs are correlated with the original sales price, not the current value. Unless you know how to fix things yourself or have a very cheap indy, you'll be paying handsomely for any repairs.
