SL55 or SL63 -- Poll ... explain why
SL55 or SL63 -- Poll ... explain why
Hey,
If you choose one or the other, explain the reasoning which pushed you in that direction.
I'm having a really hard time deciding between either the SL55 or the SL63.
SL55:
Pros:
I used to have a 2004 SL55 about 1 year ago. I miss the sound of the supercharger, the pull of all that torque and the sound of the exhaust. Not to mention that it looks great.
Im having a hard time letting go of the forced induction.
Cons:
Outdated electronics (COMAND, ESP, etc)
Old body style
SL63:
Pros:
New MCT transmission
New COMAND
New transmission modes
I like the look of it from behind
I like all the new upgrades
Cons:
Not really all gung-ho about the front
Not sold on the 63 engine. I dont like high-revving engines, i want grunt that pulls from bottom to top. I've never driven a 63 engine car, but I just "feel" like it wouldn't have as much OOMPH as the 55K engine.
If they put the 55K engine in the new SL, matched it with the new MCT transmission I would be a 100% guaranteed purchaser.
As it is now, I'm torn and it has me looking at 997TT's instead.
Would like to hear your thoughts on the 63 engine vs the 55 engine and the "feeling" difference between each.

I voted for SL55
I think the SL55 would be the better choice. I agree with you about the sound and torque of the 55 compared to the 63. Ultimately, it really comes down to what purpose you are looking to satisfy.
If you are looking for an all out straightline beast, then the SL55 is a no-brainer. The aftermarket and tuning potential is certainly available if you choose to go that route as well.
I am not sold on the 63 either. But then again, I'm biased toward forced induction motors.
Also, this is my first post so I just want to say hi to everyone.

Last year I bought SL 55 AMG 2008 modell, the last modell with 55K engine, and Im very happy... ok, maybe SL63 is the lates modell for today, but have u seen the fron look... rear is fine, I would even say its good, but front is totally opposite!!! Remember when u drive, you dont spend a lot of time in ur command...
relax, buy slightly used SL552008 modell, drive it for 2-3 years... then all new SL will come out and then THINK. Good luck in your choice, but remember, that you will drive the car, not us!
