E63 owners....what was your best bang for the buck modification?
E63 owners....what was your best bang for the buck modification?
Okay, so I bought my 2007 E63 barely 2 weeks ago with the idea that it would be a conservative daily driver and stay stock. Well, now the frigging power bug bit me, and I want to modify it, but have to be respectful of maintaining my warranty. So, I ask you, what has been the most productive modification you have done to your E63? I know the E55 has a lot of mods, but I am wondering what there is for my N/A powered car that is actually worth a crap, and does not void my warranty. Thank you in advance for your help.
So far,
the best money I have spent on it was for my air horns. The OE horn is pitiful on this car, and this helps me move idiots and lousy third world drivers out of the way.
Hey, you asked.
Hey, you asked.
You are correct. The OEM horns are wimpy, wimpy, wimpy. What did you replace them with?
Okay, what do you mean by 'a tune'? Is there a specific chip from a certain company that is more effective than others? What would be reasonable to expect?
the prices can vary. I know it starts from 1200usd to 2000usd depending on the brand.
my friend has been happy with his Gintani tune they are in Cali Van nuys.
but I also hear Kleeman is good too.
you should see about a 30whp gain

iirc
Long tubes, x-pipe, air filters, charcoal filter removal and tune makes about 70+hp
I have the same car, as mentioned above tires was a worthy mod. So far my only mod. Mine had Continentals and the one would spin, shift the car to the side, compensate with the steering, then the other would spin and it felt like it was gonna loose control. I switched to a very inexpensive tire. General Xclaim UHP. I had them on a 987 Boxster in 19" and was pretty pleased. Very happy with them on the 63 too.

Add me on the Tires list. Had michelin ps2's on before. Great for handling, turning whatever. But not in a straight line, 425ft lbs of torque shredded my rears in a few thousand miles. I still have ps2's up front, and went with wider, 285/35 18 on a 10" rim in the rears with Toyo Proxies T1R. Cheaper than the PS2's and handle way better in a straight line.
I have the same car also, as mentioned and currently doing a tune, 3 inch x-pipe straight back to my eisemann race exhaust, filters with renntech airbox evosport underdrive pulley and some new tires. I went with the Toyo T1rs.

The car is fairly complete from the get go. Your first goal was to keep your warranty. That rules out most intake, exhaust, or ECU modifications (they are either visable or detectable). The E63 suspension is also difficult to deal with even if you don't care about your warranty. So you're left with wheels and tires. I wouldn't go with lower profile (ie +1 concept) since street driving will kill anything with a aspect ratio lower than 30. (Trust me I've got 315x25x19 on the back of my Porsche and have bent the wheels several times.) Best bet is wider wheels and tires with the stock diameter. Get a good radar detector and laser jammer.
