Considering new DD- 2002 E55 (W210)- Opinions?

Fellas,

What do you all think about the W210 Mercedes E55? I currently have a 2004 GS300 (Lexus) which is a nice, reliable, comfortable ride but is lacking in power, excitement, and panache. There are some pretty well-kept 2002 E55's (last year of the W210, non supercharged models) out there with sub 50K miles for under $20K- what do you guys think about this as as 10K miles/yr DD? I'd like to keep it for 5 years-

Thanks-

I wouldn't go near it.
It's dowright boring but beyond that it's square , dated, no technology, out of warranty, slow, heavy, and expensive to fix. Plus it eats gas . I can keep going ...with a longer list too.

You want a sub 50K DD . Used M3 or new 328. I woild stay away from the 335 because the N54 engine has never impressed me.

Agreed, Honestly the W210 has not aged well at all, and also the engine isnt worth the money... W211 E55 go ahead (you can find some for cheap money as well) I had a E430 before the E55 and I wouldn't consider a W210 ever again. Id rather buy a Audi A6 of the same vintage or a M5

I love mine and it's been rock solid. I haven't had a single problem.

The 210 chassis has always been a strong platform. Granted the 124 will be the best E-classe ever, the 210 is very close behind. The biggest thing the 210 has over the 211 is that the electronics are a lot more reliable. The 211 is notorious for dropping gateways and audio units.
Performance wise, the 210 is a fun car but the 211 is a monster. Hands down.

I would also look at 03 540i sports for a more exciting drive vs. the w210 e55.

Very reliable and you can get them for as cheap as 10k. My 01 has been extremely reliable and have never left me stranded. Simple mods can get you easily to 400...... a cheapo x pipe (under $100) will give you that deep V8 sound.

Eats gas..hell no...25+ miles on the highway...

I loved mine...it was rock solid and I think still looks great. I had it about 3 years and had zero complaints. If that is your budget then so be it.

This was it
