Thumbs up

Coming from a modded 996tt to a sl55 you are going to have to accept changes, a true sport car to a blvd cruiser. I actually would want to go back to the Porsche but it makes my wife happy to stay with the Merc. The 55 series are great for low end tourqe and easily modded for performance to get you to the mid elevens in the quater without getting broke. Love the retractible hard top, ride and all the creature comforts that comes along with the car. Hate the weight and miss the all wheel drive. My advise is to look at the MB fourms to get a better idea. Good luck

SL55 is fun to drive, fast, but definitely not a strong performer on the twisties. I love the power and speed but if you do a lot of city driving, expect really really crappy gas mileage

It all depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a more sportier vehicle with many tuning options, the SL55 is the way to go. The CL class is a grand tourer but both the CL55 and CL65 are plenty quick. They're all great cars, good luck with whichever Merc you choose.

The retractable hardtop on the SL55/63/65 is pretty awesome. Also check out a SLK55, same retractable hard top and SLR looks. If you need a back seat check out a used C63/E63. AMG are as reliable as any other MBZ assuming you don't drive it like you stole it.

had a CL55 for 6 months and it really bored me. sure, it's quiet and comfortable. I've had my SL55 for 1 1/2 years and still like it, especially when the weather is nice and the top goes down. best bet: SL65

I know its different to numbers from real life, but they are basically the same car on paper. I can however vouch for the cl55. My father had a 03 that I drove for a few months at a time. It was fun on the back roads considering the weight of the car. The benefit mostly of the car was the ability to cruise at high speeds. It can hold comfortably high speeds on highways an be easy to drive. It mostly is going to come down to which look do you like better? I enjoy the cl55 more, little because I drove one for a while and another because I am not a convertible fan.

As for maintenance I was looking into buying one and talked to a mercedes salesman that is close to our family, and the cost he said is gunna be pretty high. They start brand new at 130kish so that there will make the maintenance fairly high. Not sure of your income but I know he said it was a lot. I would call a local mercedes salesman and see what they say about maintenance.

nobody said sL600(nuttiest non amg ever imho)...that's the w1n, ding ding! sL65 didn't feel any faster(even though it is on paper), compared to the sL600 I drove around for a few days.
