CLS 55, are they crap?
I don't know about nightmare, but I would never want to own one out of warranty, Our E55 had so many issues from electronics to the poor suspension design failing and being replaced only to have the front go out again eventually. Out of warrenty = huge $$ repair cost
Not even close to being crap, One of the most rewarding four door cars out there...will probably never look dated..can smoke 95% of the street cars out there that you will run into on a real world basis..dropped with rims and your car is real looker..
I do agree on having a warranty at minimum..otherwise go for it.

Not sure on "rewarding" though i guess it depends what that means to you, to me that means a sporty drive. Our E55 felt like more so a fast luxo-cruiser, same for the CLS 55/63 I've driven. Their not in the same league as say an M5 or CTS-V when it comes to handling, response, and steering feel. Which doesn't make it a bad car, just not "rewarding" to drive aggressively imo.
But def get one under warranty, god I woulda been f'n pissed if the work we had to have done was out of warranty. And then the front air springs went out again right before selling it lol

What year are you looking at for the CLS and others? Big differences in price ranges, and warranty

I test drove a CLS550 when they were the new model. I agree with 150shot, they are a classic design, looks-wise one of the best mercs ever.
But like others say you need a warranty. I have read benzworld.org a lot and there are some big maintenance bills with mercs in general, I had an early 90's 300E and it was a constant problem.

IMO ugly and a few that I have had experience with were crap. Horrible interior trim and mechanics falling apart after 3 years.

edit - btw my neighbors CL550 had to be flatbedded last Thurs, it wouldn't start. I tested the battery and it was fine, but the starter won't even turn over or click so thinking there's a short somewhere.

Please, I have two friends with 09' V's and the fit/finish was equal to my E55 if not better and the Recaro seats blow away the Benz seats. And one has a bunch of mods and he's run at Sebring and Road Atlanta quite a few times, no problems at all. What about all the issues, including major ones, people have been having with the AMGs including myself especially out of warranty, where the bills are $$$$.

hes probably referring to the first gen CTS-V.......the second gen is a totally different car with way better interior and suspension etc.
