Battery Trickle Charger for AMG E63

My car will sit for a week or two + at times before it is started....Should I get the trickle charger offered by my dealer for $150.00?...I have a porsche trickle charger that plugs into the lighter....but since the Mercedes has a closed system it does not work.....Do you hook up a battery tender to the battery in the trunk?.....and as long as it cycles off when it is fully charged it sould not damage the battery....will be away for over 3 to 4 weeks next month and want to make sure it won't be dead when I return.

I would recommend them doing it. Basically all you have to do after the install, is plug a wire into it and forget about it. One of the best investments if you let it sit for weeks at a time. Otherwise, you will have to use Roadside Assistance to have them come out and give you a jump.

(800)222-0100 in case you don't have it.

Griots Garage sells a pretty nice one that I use quite a bit. You can permanently attach it to your battery and just plug it in when you are ready to use it. I think its like $70 bucks or somethign like that. I've got three of them and use them all the time.

Was the car locked? If not, that could have been your problem. If the car is locked it shuts down all of the computers and other stuff (sbc, airmatic). I learned this the hard way. Car sat for 2 weeks in my garage not locked, battery died. My tech gave me the hint on locking the car. So on my next business trip I locked the car was gone for almost 3 weeks, car started no issue.

Also, make sure no windows are cracked, etc. Because the computers will continue to monitor the systems.

Sport Auto in NC uses a trickle charger and rotates it on all of their Lambos, Ferraris, Porshes, Mercs, etc. I just bought one from them for my 911. Easy to use just plugs into your cigarette lighter. They said you could leave it in for months at a time or just a few days for a re-charge. It is a Deltran Battery Tender Plus; I believe the part# is 021-0128. The cig adapter cable connector is sold seperately # 2701558-cig. All told it was $70.00.

Thanks for the info. I usually lock the car whenever I park it in the garage , maybe just forgot that one time. The only thing I usually leave open is the Sunroof tilted.
