Engagement / Wedding Ring For Sale
I know this thread is old, but I bet that you still have this ring.
May I give you some advice? Instead of getting lowballed and taking a huge loss, put the ring in a safety box and in the chance that you do get married, secretly go get it someday, have it cleaned/polished and then present it as if you bought it for her, or better yet it is a family heirloom.
I know a lot of people will say that doing so is unromantic/etc., but in today's world men are so exploited in relationships financially that we have to play a little dirty sometimes.

I get what you mean about appraisals and the whole color grading debate. When I picked out earrings last year, the store tried explaining all these subtle color and clarity differences, but seeing them side by side, you really have to look hard for the difference, especially if you’re not a jeweler. What matters more is how it looks on your hand (or ear) in normal light, not under a microscope.
Since you mentioned solitaire earrings, I think classic diamond stud earrings are always a hit. They go with everything and actually got me more compliments than my ring on some days.

Yes, it's true. It's easy to get "caught up" in all the nuances of grading. What people should concentrate on is "pleasing to the eye" or as I guess they call it "eye clean"
Cheers!
