one of our family best friends has a high end home theater shop in downtown chicago. if you are interested i can either ask for a price on a specific model (should be discounted) or can pm you their info and you talk to them directly. they do however, on average, sell at retail for walk ins since a large portion of their business is custom installations not retailing items.

Keep in mind the $799 is for a refurbished TV, per Philips website:

Factory-renewed - A factory-renewed product has been out of its original carton and may have cosmetic imperfections. All factory-renewed products have been tested to meet Philips' quality standards. A factory-renewed product carries a 90-day limited warranty from Philips. Factory-renewed products are exclusively found at the Philips Electronics Outlet Store.

Also, Philips is on the bottom of the name-brand plasma picture quality food chain. They have been getting better recently though.

Michael, I am also in the market for a 42 inch plasma. What brands or models should I be looking at? I was digging the ambient lighting, but picture quality is more imp.

What do you recommend?

In my opinion the best consumer models out there are Panasonic and Pioneer for the best picture quality.
