Check the Nikonians FS forum once in a while. Sometimes there are some good deals. This isn't that great but it's still what you want.

I need something that zooms great but I can manage to get pics up close. 18-200 is perfect but damn it's expensive. I'm pretty sure I'm selling my D40 and picking up a D80 with a 18-125.

I might be selling my 18-135mm soon, I just ordered the 18-200mm, might sell it with the D50 though as a kit.
