Dishwasher not draining....
Dishwasher not draining....
Guys,
Before I make the plunge and buy a new dishwashern I wanted to take one more opportunity to try and break down the particles that are preventing my Whirlpool from draining. Here's the background, the unit is only 4 years old (not even - bought it new with the house). Lastweek it wouldn't drain, so A&E (sears svc) came on Saturday and the technician took a CO2 gun and cartridge and blew out some particles, then the dishwasher started to drain. Then, sunday we did a load, and it wouldn't drain again. So, had them come out again, this time a different A&E tech showed up and he says I need a new pump. I think it's just that things are backed up. A new pump basically costs as much as a new dishwasher, so my question guys is what can I use to break down the particles clogging the drain unit??? I know liquid drano is a huge No No especially on the Dishwasher and Garbage Disposal, so I'm open to other suggestions before buckling down on a new dishwasher (Maytag for sure this time b/c Whirlpool customer service blows chunks!!!!!!).
Thanks guys!!!!!

Alan - I'm willing to try that. It's definitely just food, I know it is b/c I saw the pan that was put in and it was gone after that wash but the dishwahser drained. I'll do that tonight.
Clarke - the sink drains fine, so there's no issue there.
If I fix this with Alan's suggestion I will BLAST A&E all day long!!!!! Trying to sell me a second pump. Bunch of swindlers!!!

Wow, great tip. I'll keep that in mind.

If you have ever seen the MSDS sheet on Coke syrup, you would never touch the stuff. It is great for cleaning the corrosion off battery terminals too.
IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alan - your suggestion of pouring a liter of coke in the dishwasher and letting it sit overnight worked buddy!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!!!! You made my day buddy and saved me $600.......I'm taking you to dinner bud!!!!!! Thanks again.
+1 Rep Point for you and I think MANY OTHERS should do the same for ALAN!!!!!

Berk: Glad to lend a hand (as much of a stretch that it was). I hate repair bills. Great that it worked out. Just run some "hot water" loads and any trapped grease/leftovers from the Coke gravy should be washed through.
Alan
New dishwashers do that.
Part of the energy savings is that they don't expel water as hard as old models. I had the same problem. Sears came out and rigged the waste hose so it had a "trap" to keep things from clogging in the drain hose. He used a pretty high tech approach- zip ties!
