Where to buy sushi/sashimi grade fish in MD?

I'm looking to pick up some sushi/sashimi grade fish because I'm going to start making my own sushi. I'm mainly interested in tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and eel. Does anyone know of any places in the area, like an Asian market, that would have what I need? Willing to drive about 30 minutes from the Towson area.

long time ago, i used to get salmon from costco for sushi. every tuesday or thursday (i can't remember), they got a new shipment and they were very fresh. i've tried several asian markets for sushi but they are bad. i've only been to places in northern virginia so not sure about maryland. gl

It seems like HMart in Catonsville is the place to go for fish and other essentials for making sushi. Wegmans also sells sushi grade fish and they're only 10 minutes north of me so that's perfect.

At first I was a bit skeptical about ordering fish online but decided to give www.sushifishmarket.com a try. The fish arrived the next morning in a Styrofoam container with a block of dry ice on top. It was very much like the package I received when I ordered from Omaha Steaks. Very neatly prepared and packaged. Unlike other places you can order from, the fish was pre-sliced for sushi and all I had to do was make my own sushi rice. They have a lot of variety to choose from. The ones I tried were tuna, salmon, and yellow tail. The sushi was very fresh and I was very satisfied. I also found a coupon online for 25% off my purchase! The code was 25PERCENTOFFNOW and you just type it in at check out. It is definitely worth a shot.

Hey Chris, not sure if you make it down to Bethesda but at Glen Echo there is a small carry-out sushi place called Kanpai Sushi. This is the guy tht owns Tako Grill in downtown Bethesda. He has great fish and also deals fish. Don't remember his name but I've been going there over 10 years.

Thanks for the info Scott. I've been finding a pretty good selection at H-Mart. They have small enough pieces that are great for sushi. The portions at Wegmans are a big too large. Bought waaaaaay too much fish the first time I made it. I've made sushi a total of 4 times since I made this thread.

It looks like sushiaddict registered on the forum and posted specifically to respond to Tonk's question. He says he ordered online from a company and it arrived the next day, but both he and the company are in Houston. Perhaps he works for them?

I realize this post is several years old, but I thought I would suggest Gibby's Seafood in Timonium. I have got several REALLY nice Salmon filets that make some of the best Sashimi I have ever had. They also have Tuna on occassion. Call first, as the selection changes daily. 410-561-5225

Worth noting -- it was CHEAP at Gibby's. Wegmans sometimes has it, but it can be VERY pricey. 1lb filet was $11 from Gibby's.

Good info! I'm very familiar with Gibby's, as I've gotten steamed crabs from them before. And it would only be a five minute drive for me as opposed to 30 minutes to H-Mart in Catonsville.
