Spoiler broken... thoughts?

Hey guys... the hydrolics in my rear spoiler are shot and I'm faced with replacing it... I'm told the whole thing needs to be replaced to fix it so....

1. replace with OEM ? $2650 (P&L)
2. replace with aftermarket $????
3. figure out how to disengage?

the latter option I'm told is no good as the spoiler serves to funnel extra cold air to the engine when needed... since its hydrolic with no electric component, it can't be simply disengaged and left in the raised position... as it'll just sink... so that leaves only options 1 and 2...

Thoughts?

ps this AND the master cylinder slave for power assist steering and brakes is also shot. $1655 (P&L) and I need a new right front bearing $675ish (P&L)

^^^Nate - HOLY CRAP!!! That's the part that sucks about these cars. They can get really expensive to repair. I suggest you get second and third opinions/quotes. Start with IMA on Saturday if you want since we'll all be there.

As for aftermarket wing, it's dependent b/c the only real option you have is that MA SHAW wing I'm guessing and unless you find one in your color, it'll cost money to prep and paint that which will pretty much cost the same as your stock wing replacement w/ decklid. If you did that wing, you'd probably have to do a GT2 bumper as well.

JJ Thanks so much !!! hmmm... so I'm told that to fix it I need the whole new part... are you saying that perhaps the hydrolics can be repaired separately ? Maybe IMA can look at it more closely Saturday to determine that...

Do you think If I simply just stay under the spoiler raising speed that I can avoid the extra engine cooling needs?

I bought the whole assembly just a month or so ago on ebay for 200. It was used, but complete and functional. I just removed the wing and rams, took off the pump, unplugged it, and plugged in all the new stuff to my existing decklid.
I've turned wrenches for a long time, so I'm pretty experianced. The hardest thing was disconnecting the electrical connector mounted to the right side engine compartment area as my hands are too fat to fit in there easily.
Good luck my friend....

Nate,

Brakes are a walk in the park bro, slide by my place one day and we can take care of them pretty quick, looking at about 5 minutes a corner. I have plenty of DOT 4 P car fluid so I got that covered for you.

All you need is some pads... fairly inexpensive at AMS Performance and SunCoast.

If you're talking about the two lifts, there is no way it costs $2,600 to replace. Brand new they are only $360 each plus shipping.

Holly cr@pola! You're right... So here's what Porsche said... They used to just replace the parts but after doing so had too many come backs to do the assembly and peripherals too, so they stopped and just started replacing the whole unit...

Thanks man... I'll take my chances and get these lifts and hopefully won't have to do the rest. But my leak is, in fact, in the lift cylinders.

There's a number of things that could be the culprit, all of which are usually repairable with the expection of the microswitches. I can't mention the other forum but if you do a quick google search you should pull a lot of info about repairing the stuff you already have. I've probably fixed about 20 of them by now, everything from the screw shearing off in the pump itself to the hydrolics leaking, it's actually a pretty simple system. PM me if you decide to give it a go and I'd be happy to assist. Easiest way to start is pulling everything off the lid and getting it on a bench to track down what exactly is wrong. Sometimes it's even as simple as refilling the system (all of them seem to have very slow leaks that finally leak out enough fluid to cause a problem) - is it rising at all anymore, or just staying all the way down?

It still raises 50% on the right and about 80% on the left...
