VA ups limit to 70mph

FINALLY! However, they haven't budged the reckless speed from 80. So, 11 over is now reckless.

Seriously?!

I am happy to hear the speed limit increased. 70 was normal in FL.

Quick article on it. Let's hope the do the Greenway and Toll Road.

And another from downstate that mentions this...

Geller also said she could not discuss how higher speed limits might affect an existing Virginia law that deems going 80 mph to be reckless driving, a misdemeanor.
Should that be raised? She said she could not comment because the change in the law has not taken effect.
Del. Bill Carrico, R-Grayson County, who sponsored the House version of the speed limit bill and is a former state trooper, said the lawmakers might change the 80-mph threshold for reckless driving but not right away.

"We're talking about doing something to address that next year," Carrico said.

The options include imposing an enhanced fine but no misdemeanor charge for speeders clocked between 80 and 90 mph, Carrico said.

That's nice, but all the major roadways will continue to be 55mph because they will be contruction zones for the rest of our natural lives.

well, here's the thing, now the chances of hitting at least 80 now that the speed limit is 70 has drastically increased. some say "finally it's been raised", i say just another way to get MORE MORE MORE FINES.

It's easier to pick the pockets of honest citizens than actually apprehending real criminals.

Angry Agreed

I agree with berk and Larry's observation this state f-ing sucks a major big one. It so frustrating to go anywhere around here because it seems like all they want to do is mess with you for a few miles over. They have bigger fish to fry. How about helping bringing things around for those that are struggling, put some effort into the residents of the state. Enough said.

This is rural roads only fellas -

Think Rt 81 or 64, not Dulles Toll Road, 66, or 495/95

I agree. It's a ploy to get people cruising 10mph over the new limit and then SLAM- a ticket.
I'm sorry to say going down to VA is not as fun as it used to be. They are trying to make as much $$$ off people. My wife's cousin has been making a U turn at this one intersection for years near his house in Arlington. They just put up a no U turn sign the other day and he goes and gets a ticket for the same turn.

With all the money that VA is sucking out of people by handing out tickets the least they could do is fix the pot holes.
I almost hit one that was the size of a moon crater, sad thing is when i swerved to miss it I ended up swerving right into another pot hole and curbed my rim. Virginia you disappoint me

It's why I use my cruise control when driving on the street and ONLY get "generous" with the throttle at the track.

Lived in Va. all my life, and even though I have collected more than 10 reckless charges in that time, I've never been convicted of the charges, and I've always represented myself in court...

Know the rules to better play their game...

Whats your technique for getting off?

Do you offer the prosecutor a higher fine on a reduced charge?

I got off twice this way. I agreed to pay more for a lower charge and both times the prosecutor agreed to the plea.

Its a win for him because he brings in more money for the state and a win for me because I don't get hit with a reckless on my record (bad for insurance and job).

A business associate of mine who moved to VA less than a year ago has felt the wrath of the VA troopers. He came out last month here to CA, and said basically "you guys drive way too fast out here". I explained the 55/65MPH in certain areas here is merely a suggestion
