I'm not pro or anti gun carrying...I just wonder how people will act if they are allowed to carry.

My coworker told me yesterday about what happened at a movie theater in MD over the weekend...it was Saturday night and the power went out during the Batman movie. Everyone in the theater freaked out because it was pitch black, and of course with what happened a few days before in Colorado. A theater employee came in through the emergency exit with a flashlight and almost everyone panicked. Could you imagine if someone had a gun? I'm sure it would not have ended well...

A CCW isn't just granted, you have to take coursework and be certified.
Granted, adrenaline and panic can interfere with thought processes if you are not trained - but training is a component of your CCW certification.

But how much training is enough training? I mean cops have extensive training and yet still react poorly in many cases so we need more people out there walking around with loaded guns? There was this incident not too long ago where a mental patient came into a clinic with a hammer threaten everyone inside. Cops were called in knowing that the woman who was under 5 feet tall and weighs under a 100 lb and the only weapon shes holdind was a hammer. Ok, come on now, a bullet can travel many many times the speed of a flying hammer or a speed of a charging woman, so why did the cop unload rounds after rounds to kill her. Did he really need to do that? For someone who has lots of training and on a regular basis and still makes a poor judgment. He could have aimed it at her leg. So, do we need more of those out there? You decide.

Any real firearms owner or operator worth their weight will tell you there is never enough training.

The police arent trained to shoot people in the leg... They're trained to use deadly force when they believe it's warranted (not that I think most of them are qualified to make that decision)

Concealed carry is something you do, hoping that you NEVER need to draw your firearm... It's designed as a deterrent IMHO, your average criminal is less likely to commit a violent crime if he believes his life may be in danger as a result. Crazies will still be crazies, and violent crime will still exist, but I'd honestly feel a bit safer if criminals thought twice about doing my family harm because one of us might be armed!

Good news for MD! It's a shame someone is already trying to appeal it, at least that's what I heard on the news this morning.

I'm willing to bet a small amount of money I can find a women who's about 5 feet tall and 100 lb locked up in some prison for bludgeoning some someone to death. People with mental conditions are often much stronger than they look. Without all the facts of the situation, and without actually being there, I wouldn't judge if this was a good or bad shoot. The use of force standard is that if a person is threatening to cause death or severe bodily harm to a person, use of deadly force, fire arm, is authorized. It's real life and not a movie, moving targets are hard to hit, you always aim for center mass, the largest visible portion of a target, in most cases that's not the legs.

I'm on both sides of the argument. I believe that people should have the right to defend themselves, because criminals are going to have guns; gun laws disarm and disallow people the right of self protection. I also believe there are a lot of nut jobs out there that shouldn't be let near a cap gun.

The real answer is to have a less violent society, good luck on that one.

Sure, I'm not going to argue that there isn't a 5'0" under 100lb who is in jail for bludgeon someone to deaf with a hammer. But keep in mind that the cops are informed, and the lady did not know that the cops are there. That's the argument I'm trying to make. If the cop was caught by surprise, then there is very little time to react but to take her out. But again, the cops were called in, awared of her weapon. Deadly force was not necessary. Just my opinion

DaveWJunior is infamous around these parts
Put it this way. Let's say you're a criminal and you live on the border of MD/VA. VA is an open carry state (so anyone can carry a handgun in the open as long as it's not a prohibited area like a school/etc and they're not a felon) and they also issue concealed carry permits. MD, for all practical purposes, does NOT issue permits or allow its residents to carry. So, it's 10pm and you're in need of a little extra cash. There are 2 McDonald's restaurants within a mile of you. One is in MD, the other in VA. Which one are YOU going to rob? Exactly.... I can legally carry in 36 states. My wife works for a VA police department and can also carry in 36 states..... but if we are carrying a handgun and we go to check our mailbox across the street in our own state, we could get arrested. MANDATORY 25 days in prison.

And the B.S. continues in Marylandistan...

MD. They got an emergency stay for their handgun permit appeal.

Upon consideration of the filings relative to the motion to stay pending appeal, the court grants the motion. The court further directs that this case be expedited and tentatively calendared for oral argument during the October, 2012 session of court, October 23-26, 2012.

Entered at the direction of Judge King with the concurrence of Judge Gregory and Judge Davis.
